Don't forget the actual big news, folks, which is that Nokia has split its operations into "feature" and "smart" businesses. Separate businesses with separate management and (presumably) strategies.

I have no doubt that Nokia has done some kind of special deal with MS. And I agree with an earlier poster - Nokia's biggest strength has always been its hardware. MS clearly wants its OS associated with hardware quality, variety and character. Nokia can't compete with the cloud tech of Google and MS, so has formed an alliance with the industry underdog.

I hope the deal turns out well for Nokia, as currently all WP7 phones look alike and they've been on the back foot for so long. Strong competition between Nokia, Apple, Samsung, LG, Moto, HTC and RIM = a big win for consumers!

I am not sure Elop, as the CEO of a company as big as Nokia, could decide everything by himself. Surely, a team helps and limits the power of Elop. A team consists of board of directors, technician, marketing etc. This team certainly has reviewed all aspect before deciding go together with MS. Only time can tell whether this cooperation will be fruitfully. We will see. This cooperation is not eternal, if not come out with something as expected, anytime the parties would quit. That what business practice is. One last word, NOKIA is a big company and NOT STUPID.

nokia doesn't have any device to showcase in the event... Even if they show the meego it won't make it to the market... And nokia has stopped producing symbian phones.... Might be a tablet to show but that will be of intel moorestown.... Only symbian can save nokia.

That Elop is a former Microsoft employee. I read it in some article and it also said how Microsoft was about to overtake Nokia, and since Nokia has taken up WP7 that won't happen. There people will make Nokia conver Sony Ericsson.
