Samsung Galaxy S8 to have 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries

09 February 2017
A report from an unnamed Samsung official says that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 duo will pack a 3,000mAh battery in the 5.8" S8 and a 3,500mAh in the 6.2" S8 Plus.

A 5.8 inch phone with a 3,000mAh battery?? Come on Samsung even Lenovo with the P2 managed a 5,100mAh battery with 5.5 inch screen and it's not that big either. Typical Samsung trying to make everything too small again,I'd be surprised to see the battery will be any good with a QHD screen. I'd have to change the screen resolution in settings to 1080p to improve battery life

So, Samsung i will buy Huawei Mate 9 Pro

Noooo! The day they firstly announced the dimensions, i was afraid this would happen. Only one thing it could go wrong for S8, so that it coukd replace my S7 edge and it did. They made it thin as an iphone, because Apple knows better and have sactificed battery capacity. How incredibly stupid of them! A stronger cpu could be what, like 10-15% more battery efficient, the edge7 had 3600mah and a 5.5 inch screen, the S8 will have 10-15% bigger screen, but when the most powerfull chip will unleash its full power, it will need more energy too. So overall the battery will suffer and if we are talking from a switch from an exynos s7edge to an S8, the difference could be huge! Infortunately Samsung was stupid again and allowed Note to drag down the S8 with it. If they were afraid of capacity problems, why didnt they simply give 1.1mm extra depth to the S8. It it was 8.4mm, it would still be slim enough and able to curry an extra 300-500mah. It would be perfect. This obsession of copying Apple is ruining them, why do they have to compete with them on slimness. S8 will carry a 5.7-5.8inch screen, it shouldnt have the battery they can fit in 7mm, it should have had the battery it needs! What a shame, really... I hope that LG will be wiser with the G6

Considerably larger screens and the same size or smaller batteries. A very poor decision, because they're afraid to add a mm of thickness to the phones.

I'm afraid to say that recent reports on this site have found Nougart actually consumes more power, rather than less. The CPU power consumption is minute compared to the display and that is much bigger. So if these reports turn out to be true it can be safely assumed battery endurance will go down.

Hahaha. Midrange Lenovo P2 has 5100 mah battery with 14nm Snapdragon 625 chipset.

Anonymous, 09 Feb 2017Don't think it has to do with the battery capacity. It does actually. The Note 7 was suppose to be fit with only a 3300 mAh battey. But Samsung thought it was too small, so they went with a 'procedure that had never done before' to increase the battery capacity. The rest is history.

Trooper, 09 Feb 2017Why not ?.I think it's something to do with design(the lack of space or something) that was to blame, if I read correctly

I'm guessing it may have about the same battery life as S7's given the fact that, despite having the same battery as the S7, and with S8 having a QHD screen + bigger screen, S8 has:
10nm SoC architecture (less power consumption)
Android Nougat (more advance DOZE + can change screen resolution from QHD to qHD)

I hate backtracking, limiting and removing good features such as IR blaster, Microsd card, dual sim card slots, stereo speakers. Somehow this has become a trend with smartphones now.

Don't they realize that if they make everything available everywhere ( even in small quantities ) people will have something to choose from side by side?

                                    S7 Edge - 3600mAh
                                    Note7 - 3500mAh
                                    S8 Plus - 3500mAh

Note 4 had a 3220mAh so why they even sticking with 3000 for the smaller one..

I thought this would be the case. Why would Samsung want to risk including a bigger capacity battery after what happened to the Note 7
