Weekly poll: What is your ideal screen resolution?

12 February 2017
Phones with 4K screens will be great for VR, but a 720p screen gives you a ninth of the pixels and boosts the battery life.

I think this depends on size a lot. screens between 4-5.5 inches are good for HD or FHD. Screens larger than that are suitable for 4k or QHD.

        VR? No, thanks.

4K — let's stop here for next decade for consistency.

I think it is funny how people change their minds quickly when their favorite brand decides to use a feature..

I remember when Z5 Premium showed up. Many got jealous of Sony and started to say it was useless because human eye cannot see more than 300ppi. That it was a waste of power.

When the rumors about s8 started and a 4K display might be used, all these people just changed their opinions..

            - Oh, 2K is not enough for VR. I have never used it but I am sure of it.

I do not think VR will ever be popular, just like 3D TVs.

The idea behind Z5P was to allow you to watch movies in 4K resolution on your phone if you do not have the 4K TV.

People make critics on Sony because of the Full HD but they still have not noticed that Sony does not care about mobile VR. If they can do it on PS, why would Sony want you to use on Xperia?

People want high resolution on their phones but better battery life. They want to pay less and get a better device.

Lithium gets more and more expensive as days go by.

Flagships are how these companies get profits.

This is why you see LG X Power with 4000 mAh while G5 has 2800.
Moto Z Play has 1000 more than Moto Z.

They all make you believe a new SoC will give you much more battery time.

S8+ is said to bring 3600 mAh. I bet XZ Premium will have no more than 3500 mAh.

If the phone can downscale a 1080p or higher resolutions to a 720p screen (like playing a 1080p video for instance), then I am definitely still content with 720p.

The biggest flaw with android is that it has made people obsessed with specs. We have only just capped the megapixel madness (except Sony) and now the same should be done with screen resolution.

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2017ALL AMOLED screens are going to burn in. PenTile AMOLED scr... moreYou have no idea what you're talking about.

The "potential" to burn in does not equal "will burn in". Fact is, unless there's an assembly flaw straight out of the factory, or the display in question is on a phone displayed in a store, burn in is impossible.

More 4K screens means cheaper lower res like QHD,... also you can finally see what you record(4K videos), photos in device seems more close to reality and it just bring screens closer to ideal 3D screen that would need times more resolution for different angles(as to why its important - its to relieve stress of eyes made to see real 3dimensional world). As I see its not really about battery - samsung shows greater times for higher res that others in FHD. Price also matter not as it better for them to use new tech than cheaper one for flagship. I would also recommend first to try(as QHD tablets&phones before) then say something, well all besides upscale like Z5premium screen/videos.
As for resolution I would be for 8K2K as it means real 4K for every eye in VR. I think samsung will push it someday to S or note line,...like S10/note10.

Because its was 2011 Super Amoled Plus screen old technology screen. Means sreens layers technology old, diodes, and they ar physically old technology in that 2011 days. Don't complain that just screen pixels position - RGB matrix is is quilty. RGB matrix is just screen pixel layout position, like in lcd. I think Samsung will just reposition screen pixels layout position to RGB matrix in these days technology. So good point that Amoled was in RGB matrix. Well why they start use pentile matrix i dont really know. Maybe it was need for easier create for screens technology progress process. Or maybe pentile pixel position is for saiwing pixels, because in pentile is less green pixels and much more blue pixels on pentile. Maybe is better for battery because is less pixels. Or maybe they want make sreen look more blue. Or maybe its for because greens pixels use more battery and blue pixels less. Don't want speculate why Samsung use Pentile pixel position. Just they can answer. But is much better use RGB pixel position matrix. Its better viewing angles, better color reproduction, less screen blue, better white point, equal screen brightness, no parlax effect when reading and viewing angles or when scroling, better for reading, watching photos, videos.
