Weekly poll: What is your ideal screen resolution?

12 February 2017
Phones with 4K screens will be great for VR, but a 720p screen gives you a ninth of the pixels and boosts the battery life.

they don't need to release a mobile phone VR when their playstation VR significantly performs better for the majority of the functions that a mobile VR and if you have experience it's killer app, capcom resident evil 7 biohazard, it will scare the living daylights and make you forget what resolution it uses ( same with ace combat 7 and gran turismo sport or the questionable content of dead or alive xtreme beach volley)

720p is enough and the best for gpu, gaming and battery life the only reason iPhone perform very well it's because of its resolution

regs, 12 Feb 2017"HD 720p - Battery" Battery life doesn't depend on resolution Agree. It could be less memory usage, less CPU/GPU usage, but a longer battery life? Not a chance.

regs, 12 Feb 2017"HD 720p - Battery" Battery life doesn't depend on resolution more pixels are certainly a factor in reducing battery life.

5.5 inch Full HD display is the best while watching 720p resolution video or low resolution image. 720p video is the best because it's storage saving and 1mbps net speed is enough while watching online.

720p ....it dosent require much power...even a 2 3 year old gpu can take care of it ....it delivers superb gaming performence on affordable phones....and about density ...most of us wants higher density but i humen eye camt differ a 294 ppi and 334 ppi ...so a 5inch 720 p phone is best.....and the lesser pixels means higher battery life

In fact 720p screen resolution is perfectly enough in a phone. The vast majority of people can't see the difference. Any higher resolution is intended for monitors and TVs.

Anyway, 1080p is still acceptable, but QHD 1440p or anything higher is totally unacceptable.

Its nothing spectacular, shocking or ground-breaking, but I do see a clear difference between QHD screen resolution on Galaxy S7 and Full HD my old LG G2. QHD is a bit cleaner, the image on QHD screen seems a bit more detailed when compared directly and in person. Nothing huge, though, so its not a deal breaker for me. I'm fine with FHD till 5.5 inches, and can't stand anything bigger than that. Hard to use with one hand.

I also can't stand HD screens in 5-inch or larger displays, pixels are clearly visible to me and I want a silky-smooth image. At the same time, 4k on laptop easily gives unreadable text sizes/muddy text on external displays, connected via HDMI.

So I'm sticking with FHD when I can for these reasons. Not that I won't love a QHD-screened S7 xD

If you can have all with QHD, why not. Well when Samsung with mew software update let choose screen resolution from QHD can set to FHD if you worry about battery. So then QHD is necessary.

So the GPU usage remains the same, because the lower resolution allows the game to run at higher FPS. But if you reduce both the framerate (FPS) and screen resolution, it will actually reduce the GPU usage which results in less battery usage.

I would ask for favorite pixel density.

I might vote for 1080, as that would likely limit the amount of recalculating.

Lowering the res in this situation would improve performance in some areas, definitely gaming. But as for battery the screen still powers up all pixels which is 1440p even when you lower it. Since that's how many pixels per inch the screen has.

"720p is a clear favorite when it comes to energy consumption and it also strains the GPU the least, so you can save extra power there. But it certainly lacks sharpness on those phablet screens."

                                      Article few days ago:
"We compared the battery performance using the native 1440p setting as well as the lowest available setting of 720p.

The short answer is - the change in RESOLUTION DIDN'T AFFECT any aspect of the battery life - not in our testing routine. The minor differences we recorded were in the minutes, and are well within the margin of error of the tests."

I'd like to see a 3:2 screen with 1920*1280 resolution ... Wider for browsing and typing, compatible 1080p for video with space in black band for subtitle menu and notification.
