Zenodroid, 12 Feb 2017How come the galaxy alpha lasted 2-3 times longer on batter... moreWe don't have to go far to check your claims. There are battery tests here on GSMArena.
Samsung Galaxy S5 - 9:39 for web browsing, 11:15 for video
Samsung Galaxy Alpha - 8:25 for web browsing, 8:05 for video
As you can see S5 last much longer than Alpha with same CPU
Smaller pixel - lesser energy it needs.

First off all. Why I like phablets, and why I need QHD screens and Im maniac of it. Phablet phones are specific phones and specific users with specific needs and usability. When you have phablet like Note screens (5.5-5.7inch) I mean Androids. Then you browse desktop internet version. When you use Desktop internet you need big screen to fit view without sreen zoom to read text and comfortable usage. Then you need sharp text on desktop view version, then you choose QHD naturally. Try use Desktop version view page on FHD screen and read comfortable without zoom. Yes, you cant. You only can do this with QHD 5.7inch Phablet. Also whats also same important full desktop document format vew. You can easily read document like computerformat, also easily write. So you and easily learn and read like with computer. What phablet is more then laptop/desktop computer, that text font on phablet phone is much smaller nor computer, and in phablet you feel like you read less text than you really read. This is psichological fact and barrier. Because with smaller font (desktop phablet) you easier see text structure and faster read, because you text is like in miniature. Faster see, faster read, faster, write - means faster learn. Phablet phones with QHD phones is for Desktop usability power users. No. I dont like mobile version internet view pages. Is cutted page functionality and defrangmenting structure a lot. And also in phabets mobile version page looks disgusting. Its like see see two words on page with lupa. I think is best have two phones - one phablet with 5.7 QHD screen for desktop usage powers. And another 4-4.7-5inch for handy compact active usage with FHD screen. Also im waiting that google fix and adopt mobile version pages for phablets more accurate and more convenient for viewing and reading. And hopping that all web pages developers put more job in confordable mobile version usability structure and more and more desktop version functionality. Because now looks like whe dont have mobile phones at all. Only desktop computers and laptops, because only desktop pages versions looks proper for usage. Mobile versions looks ugly. And designs... . Have great night/day all and peace.

regs, 12 Feb 2017"HD 720p - Battery" Battery life doesn't depend on resolution How come the galaxy alpha lasted 2-3 times longer on battery with its 720p samoled and only 1860mah against the s5 1080p screen or the new 2k screens. If resolution has nothing to say, the 3000 mah battery should last a lot longer than the smaller older battery, right? And yeah it's only 0.4" screen in difference.

I can say that foe me, 1080p is the perfect resolution. Good pixel density, yet lower battery consumption. As a mobile gamer who prefers >5.5" screens, 1080p is perfect. Just so long as the price matches the screen res, I wouldn't pay $700 for a 1080p-screened phone

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2017Good information but weak connections. Resolution never aff... morerofl.
resolution is one of the key factors when it comes to energy consumption.OLEDs are always consuming nearly the same amount to that of their native resolution, that's why you won't notice much of a difference if you go down from 1440p to 720p.
LCDs on the other hand are able to scale down easy better, when it comes to resolution and consumption.

Always frame rate over pixel count. 1080p is plenty for a phone and if it can push stable 60 frames per second, that's the dream. Desktops are the same for me, I'll rather go 144hz over 4K.

Someone Else, 12 Feb 2017None of itThis is What I talked about.
There must be another plan for VR usage in upcoming years.
Even QHD Screens are resource hungry, Battery technology is old.
Now we want to have a speedy powerful Lamborghini to reach 60mph in under 3 seconds. What do we have available?
A two stroke, 2 cylinder, Motor Bike engine and a 10 liter tank for Gas.

FHD is more than enough for me. It is very clear and sharp, and doesn't devour the battery like QHD and 4K.

I prefer 5~6 inch display for a mobile device, it is big enough and still easy carry, over than these size will not easy to carry.
The resolution I prefer 1080 (FHD) because it is perfect for 5~6 inch display.
The 1440(QHD) is more power consumption, then the performance is slightly under performing and the image quality difference is very small compare to 1080FHD.
The 720(HD) is image production is slightly not enough for 5~6 inch display, but it has help the better performance and save power.
The 2160(4K) has awesome image quality just the performance and battery consumption is under-performing compare to 1080(FHD).
Actually I can accept the 1080(FHD) for normal User Interface and when it is the photo gallery/video I wish it could giving the 4K quality, the gaming I accept 1080(FHD) consider the highly performance requirement. One important things is the battery stamina, I don't want to charge the phone daily and the smartphone dimension must be flat enough, battery can be slightly large capacity but don't want the risk of explode.

In a battery-life context, only the display technology, the planned GPU usage and the display' size matters. Playing a game on QHD will drain battery faster than on HD. AMOLED uses less battery than other technology if blacks are present, and a big screen will eat battery no matter if it's VGA or 4K. 4K only needed for VR, and even then, you need enough content to compensate for the price, or else people will look at a similar device that will be 200$ less expensive thanks to QHD or FHD.
