[deleted post]A lighter version? LOL. Sorry to tell you that, but what you said is wrong: WP7 needs specs most part of Nokia handsets (maybe none of them) do not have. You seriously think WP7, even lighter, would be able to run on N8, E7, C7 or E5 (new multitasking champion which I actually possess)? Of course, via emulator, you would be able to run Windows 95, but WP7, with or without it, definitely not.
And Nokia will not provide lighter versions of WP7, but updates for all Symbian mobiles like they specified few days before on their roadmap. And after some time (would say 3 years), Symbian will give its place to WP7.
Obviously, they will not sink. But I will probably not be part of their marketing aim (I need a converging device, a do-it-all handset, not just yet another pico computer like an I Phone). By choosing Microsoft, they made the choice of being torn apart from each other platforms (would I be able, with a WP7 phone, to copy a music track to an Android handset of a friend, for an example? Hope so, but results are not garanteed).
I am not a Microsoft hater, but I would just like to be able to choose a device able to do everything into 3 years. If WP7 handstes come with low prices and are at least "jacks of all trades", even to connect the phone to my computer (on Gnu Linux, as I said before), I could change my point of view, but for now, I am actually afraid it would not be able to "do it all".
Good night from France, and thanks for having read me.

Everything it is very suspicious circumstances about Stephen Elop, so let's see how:
Before starting at Nokia, Stephen Elop worked for Microsoft from January 2008 to September 2010 as the head of the Business Division, responsible for the Microsoft Office line of products, and as a member of the company's senior leadership team.
I'm was (and still) Symbian and Nokia user since 1998 year and still use Nokia N95 8GB. But unfortunately i goona choose one from these handset:
01. Nokia N9
02. Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pro
03. Nokia N8
04. Nokia E7
05. Samsung Galaxy S II
06. Acer Iconia Smart
07. Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc
08. LG Optimus 3D P920
09. HTC Desire HD2
10. HP Pre 3
Yes, in my choice i still got few Nokia phones and when all become available i will choose. At the moment my eyes tend to Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pro. Coz camera lens near Nokia N8 camera lens quality and have a qwerty k'boards. Also with in all these years with Nokia i was have extra few Sony Ericsson phones and i like them until now.
Nokia N9 i think suspended.
Also i will never gonna to buy any WP7 OS phone how good or cheep they gonna to be. Doesn't matter or Nokia or Sony Ericsson phone makers.
Android OS, MeeGo OS, Web OS and even Symbian if Nokia maker.

Give us an Xbox phone already!
Learn from the N-Gage fiasco, Nokia. Online Halo or Gears of Wars using Xbox Live on a phone would be awesome!

Picar0, 21 Feb 2011This seems to be good news for WP7 users, but is a calamity... moreLike I've said before, Now is a VERY good time to buy Symbian. I own an iphone, and am considering getting a N8 because it's cheap, and it's due some major updates. I'll keep the iphone of course, for work and the excellent browser, but the N8 has some great media capabilities.
Android IS very tempting, but it looks like all of the manufacturers are overeaching themselves regarding features and battery evolution just isn't keeping up. See the Desire HD for example. Massive screen, but high power consumption. The Galaxy S 2 looks good, but I bet it's battery life, even with the energy efficient screen, is poor.

Why are people saying that Symbian is dying? It's still a very strong OS on the market and is very functional. Symbian 3 uses lower resources, and that's not a bad thing. In fact, these next few months could be ideal for buying a Symbian device like the N8 or E7 cheaply.
Problems aside, IF Nokia do bring updates to the N8, and the price keeps dropping, then that handset will be a very good buy.

[deleted post]Like I said before, I've used Symbian since 2003, and I guess you are the stupid, i better buy an Android one than buying a WP phone, WP can not compare with symbian, Android does not have same quantity of applications like symbian, but I'm sure one day that will happen with Android, not with WP...

I've been Symbian user since 2003 and i will never drop symbian by using WP, i don't love Nokia, I've used other symbian phones like Samsung and Sony Ericsson, if Nokia forgets about Symbian, then I will drop Nokia and I will keep using Android (I have 3 Symbians and an Android right now)

Wikipedia article in 2014 about Nokia: Once a number one cell phone manufacturer but after series of bad decisions they rapidly declined on market. Their situation is similar to the 3DFX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3dfx_Interactive

By the way, then, why using a game to advertise Nokia E7 if the OS is a walking dead (who said "zombie" lol?)?

This seems to be good news for WP7 users, but is a calamity for Symbian users like me: it means into few time (I would estimate 2 years), there will be no Symbian smartphone anymore.
Too bad Nokia is letting down this OS, whatever American people could say (yes, I am from Europe, France, accurately). They could keep it as a second smartphone OS like Samsung with Bada.
WP7 phones could be fine, but I do not feel like I am the people targeted by this kind of product (I use Gnu-Linux and do not care a lot about ecosystem or vrtuel social networks).
Sorry guys, but I will have to switch to either SE or HTC Android phones on next 3 years.
RIP Symbian, and good luck Nokia-Microsoft.

Too late. I was with symbian since late 2001, starting with the 7650. Ive had everything that nokia have put out smartphone wise. I have to say, mr elop, that the first.mistake nokia made was ultimately the one that would end up costing it the most. Symbian never really changed. Things were just tacked onto the os.thats how it has been. It dodnt evolve. I suppose you could couple that with arrogance and that brought yoi down too. The relationship you have now with ms is certainly something i never wanted. So i have jumped ship to android. I won't use windows. Android is mant things to many people but it is evolving for the better. Something nokia should have done way before now.

Hats off to Elop.A very beautiful way of organizing a company which is under burning platform. He has took the right decision to make Symbian Platform stronger first and then Jump to Windows 7 OS for Mobile. But Symbian platform is revamped slow which is unacceptable as already Android took over in market. And also leaving symbian after few is not a good strategy. So nokia Can continuously Revamp Symbian,W7 OS and Meego alsong with Series 40 for mass phone sales.

i've read GSM Arena's "Windows Phone 7 OS review: From scratch" few months ago, and now i can't understand why Nokia pick WP7 as its main OS.
it has too many disadvantages compared to Symbian (and Android).
let's hope they'll fix those disadvantages before the first Nokia-Microsoft phone became available...

AnonD-1082, 21 Feb 2011It better not lag. I suspect it will be using 680 Mhz on th... morewell people didnt like android for the first year of its life to. lets just wait and see how wp7 develops. i still the most fond of logics that a phone is a hardware device and you put in it the OS you want(best example: hd2).
