A sneak peak at Symbian's new homescreen

25 February, 2011
During a recent Nokia event in China a sneak look at what appears to be a revamped Symbian was leaked. It looks like a Nokia N8 with a different homescreen layout. You can see a dedicated status bar, which...

mark, 28 Feb 2011does'nt matter how much you dress it up. its old and naff. ... moreDear Mark, you are saying this because you are too jealous of Symbian. I bet your OS cannot do the following:
1. Multitasking (unless you use Honeycomb), bet you are not using Android 3.
2. Change your menu looks into folder or flat-menu (Except for Symbian, any other OS can ONLY use flat-menu system).
3. Redesign your icons (Only Symbian is capable of changing the looks of your icons when you change a theme. If you want to do that in other OS, you have to write a patch, which is totally impossible for regular users).
So, if you can't do the above things, I bet you are jealous. And when people gets jealous, they do either of the followings:
1. Make ownself better to match the thing of jealousy
2. Make the thing of jealousy look bad in front of others by bad-mouthing about it.
In my opinion, you are the person who uses the second method. PLEASE, be creative. There is no harm if you admit something good. Because, you know something? There is NO PHONE called ULTIMATE PHONE, it is you, who will decide which phone works better with your demands.

I'm afraid that's just another Chinese made copy cat of the N8. The screen and those two bars look very much like in Android, which most Chinese fake phones run on. Nokia even went as far as shaking hands with Microsoft so I hardly think they would ever make an UI that resembles Android even by the slightest.

I dont see what is so bad about t9 on symbian^3? I have huge thumbs and the large buttons are just right with my thumb size. The one handed operation also is handy especially when my other hand is busy with something.

And about the portrait keyboard, we will have just to wait and see the finalized version when it is released.

AnonD-695, 27 Feb 2011check it out in the news section. Maybe is on page to by no... moreRight, once again like I said. It is due to manufacturer implementation. For instance look at the original Droid. Despite only having a 600Mhz processor on 2.2 it is very quick. Same with G1 on a vanilla version of 2.2 the device is fast. So how does it prove your statement despite the skin?

Don't bad mouth the T9 text input? LOL. Is that why people complain about the T9 input on Nokia N8, and the fact that Nokia is trying their best but still fail to make a decent qwerty for the N8? How does Nokia fail at that it just blows my mind. Nokia made a very good Qwerty on the E71, yet fail on the N900, the N97's, and an onscreen qwerty? Especially in portrait mode? WTF? heres a tip nokia, take the E71 qwerty layout, make it into digital buttons, slap it onto N8. How does nokia fail to do that doesn't really amaze me considering their position in the mobile market right now. I guess stupidity is the leading cause of bankruptcy.

Ur statement just proves my point, android os will not run at an optimal level if the processor in not up to mark, no matter what skim is used

And pls, dont badmouth about the t9 text input, it has is advantages too. Such as super large buttons and one-handed operation.

But i agree that nokia is dying thanks to elop

G1 running android 2.2, G1 specs can be found on GSMARENA, G1 is only 528MHz. Funny how nokia fanboys refer to an unknown vendor with unknown listed specs to prove their point. Altek Leo? Altek is a big name phone manufacturer? No. Altek CPU specs listed? No. GPU specs listed? No. Running at the very least 2.2 since it is more optimized than 2.1? No. Nokia N8 still has crappy onscreen keyboard? yes. T9 keyboard on screen as default? yes. Old useless OS.

Altek leo processor is undisclosed, how do you know how powerful the device is? It's running ontop of a vendor UI, Altek could very well be using a way over bloated UI. Proof that I have a Defy? refer back to my much older postings, unless I had the ability to foresee the future in which I will need to claim I own a defy to back up my case; why would I need to mention my ownership of a motorola Defy? The Defy isn't a top tier android device.

My postings are according to who they're targeted to. Most of the Nokia fanboys with any knowledge about mobile devices and technologies left with their tails between their legs when they finally realized Nokia is dying. All that is left is delusional fanboys that post ridiculous remarks without any proof or information to help their cause.

how will nokia understand that these things will not help.if they have to stay in the market they ought to have ANDROID on their devices. wp7 is ok but ANDROID is better or rather the best way in present scenario.wp7 can only help them compete in high end category but to make it's mark in all categories they need to do the way it's contempories are doing.i mean all the mobile companies are now having both os in their stable then why not nokia.for the sake of it's customers nokia should do ANDROID or else get ready to loose the market.
