Ershadq, 28 Feb 2017Why no "mi" mark beside earpiece? No NFC? Just like redmi s... moreof course the regular mi5 is better. mi5 should be put on flagship class, while the "C" version is for the mid range. it should be cheaper than mi5.

Xiaomi getting better after they ditched MediaTek for Snapdragons, hope this new chip can be as good as Exynos and Kirin.

decent specs but the battery is a bit small considering the 28nm CPU. This might have a battery life similar to a Nexus 5.

I think Pinecone was a better name than Surge for a chipset....

I'm a mi4c user. I don't think they released it as an upgrade. More like a different direction model. Mi4c didn't sell much so releasing a quite different device (better is some aspects, worse in others) poses little risk to Xiaomi and it's a good place to start testing their own chipsets. Yes, 28nm is pathetic but t860 mp4 graphics are quite capable.

AnonD-451592, 28 Feb 2017So they think that this crap is better than the s808 ? I'm ... moreIt's probably an issue in cost why they didn't go for the sd 650. But afaik, their lower end chip was designed to go up against the the helio P2 and SD 625. Although they should have shrunk their Surge S1 processor to atleast 14nm so it would be more energy efficient. But from what I've heard, 28nm process is cheaper to manufacture than the other smaller process because the yields per wafer is better, even though a smaller process would give u more chips per wafer, the yields is far lesser. So overall, a 28 nm process will give them more working chips. it's probably why they went with that route.

Dude please wake up, this is the first time xiaomi build their own chipset so don't expect something too remarkable. This is good step and hope their chipset keep going better and can compete, more competition more alternative. Best for costumer.

How 550 Nits of brightness can be adjusted in 2048 levels?
0 Nits, 0.25 Nits, 0.5 Nits, 1 Nits, 1.25 Nits...?
No logic actually, because even you provide such steps, the brightness slider, even in landscape mode, maxes out at 1920 steps considering edge to edge pixels (which won't be used anyway).
So technically, 2048 level seems to be a gimmick to me.

AnonD-451592, 28 Feb 2017So they think that this crap is better than the s808 ? I'm ... moreNope, they never claimed that to be true either. They only claim this to be better tan the Snapdragon 625, and claim that it is really powerefficient as well (build on the 10nanometer proces).
Also the camera should be way better than on the mi4C, the phone is also way thinner, but the battery wil be smaller as well. I don't know about this release though
You're right that the mi4C was a really good deal for your money.

AnonD-428442, 28 Feb 2017For those complaining about 28nm, the latest Snapdragon 65x... moreActually the HCP 28nm planar is around 20% more power efficient than the HPM 28nm that S65x are based on & the Samsung 14nm FinFET LLP is actually larger than 16nm TSMC. Still the upcoming 22nm FD-SOI from GlobalFoundries will be the best by far with power efficiency very close to 10nm FinFET and 20% lower prices than 14~16nm FinFET's & when you count in the RF & mixed logic components that are suitable for it & not FinFET's final result will be a smaller power consumption of a FD-SOI based SoC then current 10nm FinFET ones.
