s1 just come to steal the some pie from p20 . but s650/s625 still way better for performance/watt

28nm is lame for a chipset that wants to compete with the SD652/653. And the SD654 is likely getting 10nm after the S8 is getting released

It's a very powerful budget mid-range Chipset, it beats P20 and Snapdragon 625 in raw performance in CPU and GPU, but being on the old 28nm, it will result in a low battery life in comparison.

Now... Xiaomi must give us more basebands to the rest of the world and also, they FINALLY can sell this smartphone in other markets than China and Asia since it has a lot of patents.
The Surge S1 is decent GPU wise. A quad core Mali 860 is not a bad deal. At least is better than Snapdragon 625 on that department, however they don't get near the 650 levels.
Now as for the next step, Xiaomi must build their next chip at 16 nm at least and also must have the following configuration:
- Dual Core A73 at 2.4 Ghz
- Quad Core A35 at 1.7 Ghz
- Hexa Core Mali G71 or Octa Core G51
- Having a own DSP would make a massive difference here.
Also giving open drivers will help them even more and they need to expand too. Isn't Xiaomi created to hear the comunity?

Jeeze. I know these are lower tier chips but for goodness sake 28nm is many years and generals old now. Like 2012.
At least use 20nm for such chipsets
