Earlier rumours suggested a lightning & USB-C compatible combo port would be forthcoming. I'd put my money on that change rather than a strictly USB-C port.

When another company use type C usb on their new phones, everything is great and everyone love it, but when apple/iPhone rumors to use type C usb on their new phone everyone lost their shit even it is 80% not true

AnonD-585264, 28 Feb 2017That's a clever move by Apple. Market will adopt USB type C... moreThis! While another port switch would be a slight nuisance, I'd gladly take Type-C over the Lightning connector. When it was time to buy a new iPhone Plus this past November, I deliberately purchased the 6s Plus in response to the headphone jack removal. I own Bluetooth headphones and I don't like them. I use wired earbuds every day. I was dreading the next iPhone purchase because of this issue. If they switch to Type-C, iOS users who still prefer wired headphones would not be stuck having to re-up on Lightning headphones and ridiculous dongles. We could chose from a plethora of Type-C wired buds once they start infiltrating the market. Which is precisely why I don't see Apple making this switch. It goes against every strong arm technique they use. Offer a simple, quality, reliable phone - appeal to the masses - gouge them for every proprietary accessory possible.

AnonD-535480, 01 Mar 2017What? What is your comment even mean? Your comment would ... moreIt exactly what its mean. I simply elaborate more on your point. There is no need to say Apple made usb c or even argue who made it because many people involved in making it. I see it as pointless seeing you people talking about who created usb c so, I simply want to point out there is nothing special about it as they are only among the few of many people creating it. To conclude, no one should take credit for anything as I see it unfair.

that would so piss off the people who just bought a bunch of lightning port adpators just this year for example for earphones.

Your comment would make sense if I were making claims that Apple is the sole creator of USB-C (which I did not). All I said to the previous poster is that 18 out of the 79 engineers were from Apple. The previous poster was the one claiming Apple had no hand in this (as usual). Some of us may want to close our eyes and ears when it comes to give Apple credits on anything. The same team who created lightning is the same team who also took part in the usb-c group.

Fly Sheikh, 28 Feb 2017This is unlike apple. I hope they don't make it impossible ... moreCorrection, this move would actually allow people to connect their iPhones and iPads to their Macs as they are currently unable to do so unless they have 2 to 3 dongles attached in series...just to connect an Apple mobile device to an Apple PC.

The time for Apple to adopt USB C on iPhones and iPads has already passed, everything since iPad Pro and iPhone 7, should have had USB C, not Lightning.

That logo is more than what inside the phone. So what ever you do, like or hate, it will sell! Coz that logo is status!Who care about inside while we have that fruit logo on back, that fine!

Apple is the best , they removed 3.5mm headphone jack , really did a good job , how long will you use such an old port ? it's time to change , try something new and powerful , soon USB Type-C will take place of it which is really a good thing because USB Type-C is going to be common in all devices in future , Type-C is the future and latest technology with high speed transfer upto 5 & 10 Gbps speed , Type-C will be used for charging , data transfer , display , I think all devices in future should adopt Type-C and remove all old ports and connectors and cables .

This is very unlikely to happen because apple might loose some revenue on royalties from different manufacturers of lightning ports.
