Here's the Samsung Galaxy S on Gingerbread, benchmarked

01 March, 2011
Our hands were itching to try the leaked Gingerbread update for the Samsung Galaxy S and to give it a spin to see what's what. The update doesn't bring anything spectacular in terms of looks; only the...

I checked between Froyo 2.2.1 (I9000XWJS5) & Gingerbread 2.3.2, in my opinion Froyo gives better performance & smoothness then the Gingerbread. My benchmark result also shows that Froyo is giving better performance. But I don't complain as it is still a beta.

About lagfix. Ext2 based lag fix don't flush to file system in the database write test of quadrant. It's like cheating, so you can get 2000+ points.

With ext4,lagfix and o/c done for the Galaxy S, shouldn't the score come up to something like 3000 at least in quadrant?

I don't own a Galaxy s but my Nexus S (being similar in hardware) is capable of hitting 3700 when i overclock it to 1400ghz.

It's good that Samsung is providing gingerbread updates though after all the outrage over froyo. Hope the update's not just for outside the States.

Quadrant scores are pretty useless to me. I had 2000 last month on froyo. It was snappy but slow at loading a mass of anything such as gallery or searching for an app on my mobile.
After updating to some half froyo gingerbread version I ended up with just 1000 quadrant. But my phone is just as snappy and performs much quicker in the aforementioned cons.

I have stock 2.2 SGS i9000 rooted with OCLF and my Quadrant scores are on average 2000 plus. Still minor issues but overall it runs like a champ. My Nexus One running 2.3.3 unrooted is super smooth but Samsungs' swipe to text or call from messages or contacts makes my SGS faster to use. Gingerbread seems like a UI update and not much more. Also LauncherPro Plus, ADW Launcher EX and Go Launcher Ex have issues with Gingerbread 2.3.3.The App Drawer is super buggy!

A rooted Galaxy S with lag fix, cfw and overclocking is almost as fast as the LG Optimus 2X.

If you get lag with Galaxy delete the cache ( history ) from the browser and there is much improvement, there was on mine at least. Froyo gives more functions than the previous so is very good to get.

I guess it is better than a stock 2.1 Galaxy S, but running a 2.2 rooted with Voodoo on my phone I'm scoring 1500-1600.

I just do not understand why Samsung doesn't do what these Lagfixes are doing. It just beats me.

Wow, Samsung seems to have good hardware and specs. But in reality, they have a lot of issues with apps and software updates.

Sadly rooting the phone on Froyo made it impossible for it to connect to Kies. Had to unroot it using Rootexplorer & getting rid of SU app, quite a tedious process indeed. While Kies started to backup everything, the new Kies 2.0 update again made it impossible to backup. Samsung really needs to *test* what they start to update. I sacrificed my benchmark score of 1900 to 900 for what?!
Samsung really needs to get its filesystem to ext4 format. The phone on Froyo isn't lagfree, but it works fine. I'd like to mention, it flew while it was on OCLF. I just hope UNROOTING is an easy procedure in Gingerbread.
Its quite sad that the new UX from the SGSII isn't in this update. But i guess that was being overly optimistic

I don't believe it, it is refreshing that finally you have a comment section with generally mature & helpful comments.
Due to the predominantly immature & ignorant writers that pervaded your comment section that seemed to be exclusively for 12 y.o's, I was embarrassed to recommend anyone to this site for reference, in case they needed to search opinions & comments. Looong overdue. Keep the standard up.
