Of course, in terms of profits the roles are reversed.

There's a reason why Sony is never mentioned in articles like this and I wouldn't expect it unless they change their tired and old ways.

No surprise here, the big dogs still remain the big dogs in their own departments. My question is why don't they count Oppo's and Vivo's sales/shipment numbers together along with their profits? Same goes for Huawei I guess.

When we are talking about what we need to pay for flagship device, I certainly won't pay a single coin for something without investing on innovation but just sucks profits

krystian, 10 Mar 2017What you talk about is iteration. Yes modularity is innova... moreIteration and innovation are hand in hand...cant iterate without innovating how to move forward. figuring out how to make something better, is part of innovation. therefore you can iterate properly if that's what the plan is. If Samsung didn't brainstorm how to make the Exynos chips better and innovate, and come to using 10nm manufacturing (or Mediatek now looking to 7nm), we'd have stagnated iteration, which hurts the market overall.

Yes disruptive and new things are true innovation, Modularity in the G5/Moto Z, are a decent example, but many times these things sneak into the market...the V10 quietly added dual cameras...which have snuck and stuck into the market, almost as if they were there all along, with new innovating ways to use them like Huawei using B&W lens with their color one to create artistic photos, or Apple using it for a Bokeh effect.

You haven't encountered a game that slows a phone down because the hardware (in flagships at least) is still outpacing software, and that is good, it makes phones more viable in the long term, if that is what the consumer wants. It is similar in PC land, the hardware is simply outpacing most software. Usually this is because the software is coded to current hardware, not very often to future hardware.

AnonD-278523, 10 Mar 2017I know.. I also have this ideology, but I hate to see peopl... moreYah, well the internet is full of trolls. Their mission it to get you angry, you just ignore them.

Honestly, no manufacturing process is 100%. If you have a 0.3% error rate that's not considered bad, but it means that a large chunk of people are going to get bad units. Those people are experiencing bad luck but it seals their belief that the brand is poor. My parents first Samsung TV died on them 3 days in. They decided to get an LG. Most of my family uses LG tv's. My brother has the awesome new oled ones. And we are happy. But I know many who haven't had issues with Samsung, so again it's just bad luck. My parents don't hate Samsung but they decided on another brand while they could get a refund.

Anonymous, 10 Mar 2017I think you missed the factor that innovation is not solely... moreWhat you talk about is iteration. Yes modularity is innovative like the Moto Z. It's more disruptive than something that's iterated upon like a faster chip or faster downloads. Often times phones are iterated upon slowly as to not pour a huge amount of resources into innovation but move the tech towards that route at a slower pace. One of those is going to be foldable screens. The investment is slow in them as they are being put into existing phones slowly and companies have experimenting with oled and manipulating it. You see LG and their bendable phones or the bent screen edge by Samsung. These are going to lead to the real innovation but they are not innovation.

Either way, no, games won't use that tech. Why? Because they limit their customer reach. I haven't seen anything that comes out that requires the latest chip, ever in my years. See something innovative like pokemon Go ran on pretty much any phone with a camera.
