Of course, in terms of profits the roles are reversed.

krystian, 09 Mar 2017Sorry my wording was off. Who innovated doesn't matter. A... moreI think you missed the factor that innovation is not solely in the phones. Why do you need more power for games and stuff that already run perfectly? because new game tech is being innovated, and will tax that older system. New SoCs aren't simply power, but compatibility, dual cameras wouldn't be a thing without that update, 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE bands, etc. all incompatible if the market didn't innovate. Innovation is still required in each market to keep up with other markets.

Only some manufacturers have stagnated recently, (HTC, Apple, for examples). Others are bringing ideas to the table, Samsung has rebounded from the S6 stagnation, and Note 7 disaster, which probably motivated them even more to bring new things, bringing Iris scanning, and a whole new build for the S8. LG hasn't really slowed down on trying new stuff, from modularity to 2 screens, etc. even some Chinese brands are putting some ideas in, Xiaomi and Sharp with bezel-less screens. Then the SoC companies like Qualcomm, Huawei, MediaTek, Samsung, etc are always looking to new manufacturing processes, (14nm, 10nm) as well as new cores to power phones more effectively and efficiently to keep them running for a long time, and power any latest software, camera, screen, etc. thrown at them.

Duel, 10 Mar 2017"Apple makes 208 $ profit per phone they sell on average by... morecheck your sources.. .Samsung S7 screen alone costs more than whole iphone 7... overall Samsung flagships costs ~$300 to make and sells for $500 (wholesale) whereas iphone costs ~$120-140 to make and sells for $600 wholesale, additionally apple shifts quite a lot directly from their store. What is even more important apple keeps shouting about "costs to design" etc. that that is all lie - they do not innovate anything, but takes off-the shelf cheapest outdated parts and the only additional cost they have is marketing... so that $120-140 is all what iphone costs.

For Samsung is completely different story - majority of components are developed in house and are actually market leading specification, Samsung is usually first to deliver certain part to the market at least 6 month before anyone else, so design and research costs should be added. Furthermore $300 is just basically cost to manufacture the parts, but it worth much more technologically, just because nobody else can offer such specs. If another company would want to put same part (manufactured by Samsung) in their phone they would need to pay probably twice as much and even then Samsung would not sell their latest parts. So whereas you can put price on parts in iphone, because that is open market prices which anyone would pay if the decide to buy such parts... one cannot really put price on Samsung parts, because those are made by Samsung for its own use and are not available to the market for at least year or 2.

Take for example (rumored) iphone 8 - it will source LED screen from Samsung and it will cost $170 alone, making entire phone price ~$210 and making it most expensive iphone ever to keep apples profit margin (some say it will retail at $1000). Now that LED screen will be the quality and technology as used maybe in Galaxy S4 or S5 - yet it will cost much more than typical screen on iphone. Back in the day Samsung LED screen on S4 and S5 was only valued at $120-140, even though they were not available to buy in the market.. now 3 years later they will cost $170 in open market! That is just illustrate how much technologically more advanced and more valuable Samsung devices are.

This is pure lie, or do you have somekind of source? Samsung does about same profit per phone from their high end models. sure their average profit is lot smaller because samsung mostly sell low/mid end phones, that's why their ASP is around 200$ when Apple have 690$.

Apple makes 208 $ profit per phone they sell on average by using out-of-date technology at very low costs as Samsung brings new technologies to the market at high costs, so making only 27 $ profit per phone on average. Shall I blame Apple for making 8 times (unfair) higher profit than Samsung or the apple (!) lover consumers for buying Iphones.

krystian, 09 Mar 2017To be fair, I have been using an iris scanner on my phone f... moreI know.. I also have this ideology, but I hate to see people bashing my favorite brand.. just because sony fan boys got nothing to brag about they bash sammy with false allegation.. they say, sammy has poor build quality, and bad materials.. seriously?? my uncle owns a tech mini mall of samsung, so we get most products at a very less price.. we have a samsung made plasma tv from 2006.. its been 11 years and it gave us zero problems.. our refrigerator, nearing 15 years are without any problem.all the ACs no problem.. I have used nokia phones before moving to galaxy.. i know samsung is not quite there upto nokia N series quality.. but my galaxy s3, note2, s6 edge, and now s7 edge.. never ever gave me any problem... only s6 and s3 had a little bit bad battery backup.. but with s7 thats fixed.. in fact, the brand has been so reliable to us, that we can never think of any brand other than samsung.. in fact my brother owns an one plus 3 with that glass back, and he always come and compare with my phone, to deem that his phone is faster to load apps and all.. but i hardly care.. i can accept that my phone load apps 2 sec later, but i love to design my phone with themes and all. and the heart bear sensor is really helpful during my workout, as i have some problems related to health.. so I am happy with what I have, but I also don't like other people to come and compare theirs with mine. I don't like people to argue to gain a superiority complex..

LOL at fanboys and flame wars. I don't think debating between automobiles was ever this brutal and they are more expensive tools to take us places.

At the end of the day, they are just smartphones. A pocketable PC discarded every few years. The new iPhone can come in titanium alloy and would be game changing but nothing life changing. It will still be a slab with a display and you press to open apps on it.

Carry on with your Samsung vs Apple bs. Wasting time. This is why I despise both brands in phones. I would rather get a 4K Samsung TV or Apple 12" MacBook with Kaby Lake than debate the merits between two overpriced, overrated brands in the now gimmicky mobile industry.

In my humble opinion, Apple should be forced to separate iOS software and service from iPhone hardware manufacture, allowing licensing 3rd party manufacturers to build phones using iOS.
This will benefits all of us and the entire mobile ecosystem, and prevent Apple's monopolisation.
