(Just not a touchscreen and can't go on the internet, mind you. ;-) ) And as a Sony fan, I'm sure you must thank us for the camera sensor on your Galaxy S7. xD
All the good phone brands like LG, Sony (though I seriously hate the Kanuti platform design), OnePlus, Nokia, and Xiaomi need to step up their advertising game. That way, Samsung and Apple truly dies.

So in the consumer market it doesn't matter as long as Apple or whoever someone trusts as a brand gets it. And it's also about marketing. Why does anyone really need 5g? Well you gotta convince the world they need it. It's not just about putting something out there.
It's not about stagnation. You have to realize most people don't need all the power in their phone and all the crazy features if you look at their real world usage. Why do i need a snapdragon 835 over an 821? I mean, will my chat open faster? Will my games run better? How could games that already run perfectly run better? Phones have been stagnated for a while and they have been fighting over tiny miniscule specs that no one honestly cares about but marketing manages to make it important. I mean my phone camera is better than my friends iphone 6s and she sees it when we take pics but she doesn't care because hers is also great and good enough. Then some company comes out with 2 extra pixels! And they love it when people fight about smartphones. IT's almost as if they are starting these wars. Without this fighting you read on the forums, who would actually want to have a better cpu when their current phone runs well?. People want to feel better so they get the best so they can say they have the best and how much better their phone is. In the real world it doesn't matter, it's all in their head.

Innovation drives the consumer market, without it, markets stagnate, especially in any tech based markets. Innovation is a driving force to have any new device, hence new chipsets, screens, cameras, USB versions, Bluetooth, new Wireless standards...5G etc. all wouldn't exist without innovation in consumer markets.

I have had an AI on my phones for a few years. And A lot of OS features in android/ios have been around already on windows phones. The thing is the market share is so small no one will ever know. Granted, I use all of the platforms.
Honestly, I don't care where stuff originates from or who did what first. Technology is about getting stuff to the people to enjoy it. This fighting between people is silly. Just use what you like. If my friend is eating Dominos pizza because he likes it and I like Pizza hut, we don't go fighting about which pizza used cheese first. Seriously?
Innovation doesn't matter in the consumer world. What matters is getting the product to the people and marketing it. Samsung and Apple have some of the best marketing in the world. Apple sells way more high end devices because that's all they have. Honestly, it's because of Apple that a lot of smartphones are even in this business making all this money. And that's a fact whether we like it or not. There were phones around before it but bringing it to the real world outside of the techies is what created this whole smartphone craze. Why not just buy what you enjoy and not flame others for no reason. Does it make you feel superior that something on your phone came first? Whoopy, life is worth living now. :)

You love samsung because they can't keep up with very high sales in high end phones like Apple can and that's why they do lot of profit.
So if S8 is big success are you going to start to hate Samsung? :D because that phone has very high profit margins.

While Androids market is ever expanding with competition, this also breeds innovation within the market. Apple has no direct competition in the iOS space, thereby no direct cause to innovate over similar OS manufacturers (though Android is a competitor, Apple has stagnated in innovation recently, which may change on the next phone...who knows).
If Apple makes a mistake, it crashes that entire market, where any company can mess up in android space and it only effects a fraction of the market (The Note 7 is a brilliant example)
Apple's greatest enemy is itself.

-LG pioneered dual camera setups in the V series, many other companies followed suit with different ways of doing so. The ticker screen...the Hi-fi DACs etc also pioneered in the V series, and consistently improving and redesigning that series.
-LG's G series usually tries something new each year as well (The G5's Modularity is an example..even if it didn't work out)
-HTC started the Dual Pixel cameras in the HTC One. Lately, yes they have been drawn back.
-Sharp/Xiaomi started to make bezel-less devices (Mi Mix, Aquos)
-Google Pixels have an AI in Google assistant, but AIs have been around for a bit in varying devices.
Just because Samsung is the biggest player in android does not mean no other company innovates year over year. You just don't hear about it as much.

Sony and other big manufacturers are doing nothing new, except changing the design slightly here and there, and internal changes... even Apple is same.. but samsung,, every year its something new, something better.. with s5, they added fingerprint,USB 3.0, heartbeat sensor and waterproofing, s6 was totally different with bold design, curved dual edges, new UI., better fingerprint, O2 sensor.. with s7 they again added waterproofing, sd card support, better UI, and dual pixel technology otherwise used only in DSLRs, now with s8, they are making a total design overhaul, Artificial assistant, force touch, iris scanner, facial recognition, better waterproofing.. and probably few other secrets.. tell me any brand with this much drastic additions year on year.. can you?
