AnonD-1825, 14 Mar 2017Exactly, Apple knows when the tech is ready for primetime. ... moreYes, like when Apple put the antenna bands in the metal surround on the iPhone 4, which meant that if you held the phone at the bottom you disrupted the cellular signal and caused calls to drop--leading to Steve Jobs to say, "Don't hold it that way."
Or like when Apple dropped the industry leading Audience noise cancellation chip that was in the iPhone 4 and used an in house solution in the iPhone 5 and every iPhone to this day, which is far inferior for blocking noise during calls.
Or like how Apple insists on making the thinnest phones, so they have to have a camera bump on the back of every iPhone since the 6S, meaning that the phone cannot sit level on a flat surface.
Or maybe you're thinking of how Apple has smaller, lower quality 1/4 and only very recently 1/3 sensors in their cameras, which are decades old technology, again because they insist on making the thinnest possible phone. Meanwhile much higher quality larger sensors have been in Samsung phones for years and some Nokia phones had better sensors more then ten years ago.
It is just a myth that Apple is either 1) a leader in technology 2) only waits until the technology is really ready for prime time. Apple makes phones that the iHerd will buy, tells them its the best thing, even when it isn't, and thats all.
Apple has done some great things and some incredibly lame things, like everybody else. The only difference with Apple is that their marketing department is second to none, so they have literally brainwashed entire populations into thinking that their products are always made in the only possible right way, even though their products are just products like anybody else's.

AnonD-1825, 14 Mar 2017Exactly, Apple knows when the tech is ready for primetime. ... moreYou assume people weren't happy using it before apple implemented it though. People are happy with new tech and certainly when companies improve on that tech. It's just you apple fans have to wait so long for apple to implement things you "claim" they are the best at it because that's the only possible answer you can give for them not having it years ago like everyone else.

So if the scanner stops working and you want to keep using it, so you need a new one.
To give you a new sensor , repair service has to change the screen too.
Which leads you to pay for both..
If your screen gets broken or another issue, you get another one, it comes along with new sensor..
You pay for both..
Am I right?
I like the idea of screen as fingerprint scanner, but not if sensor is completely integrated to screen.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2017Easy to say they got it right when they come out with it ye... moreExactly, Apple knows when the tech is ready for primetime. They knew exactly how it need to be to be a big hit and actually get people to use it. Apple had few key elements. It was very precise, the place of scanner in front and the size of the scanner and no need for swipe the finger. All these elements was very important to make it feature loved by tens of millions.
Again it's not important who does it first, its all matter who's implemention is good enough to make people actually want to use one.

Having owned an LG G5 that was very nice in the hand, having the scanner on the underside is way more practical and easier to operate, than something down the base of the front. I have an iPhone SE, and that is a pretty small phone (prev was S7 and S6, and Note 4), and even on the SE, it's slightly more fiddly to reach the home button than it was to touch the rear mounted scanner on the G5, where one's finger would rest naturally most of the time anyway.

Samsung is so obsessed with this bezeless phone that their usability is going backwards.
In reality very few cares if phone has bezels or not.

Good move. Samsung really learned their lesson to not rush things out. If it doesn't work, skip it. Don't know why Synaptics can't make it work in time even tho Samsung had put resources into them. Hopefully, the technology will be perfected in the Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8.
