They did something even better:
They bought Nokia without actually buying it. This way they reap all the benefits for their core industry while staying away from the problems.
Benefits: having a platform for a mobile OS, shoving down developers mouths some particular, closed, toolkits and development IDEs and other software.
Problems: monopoly charges in EU, loss of sales (after all, Nokia is still a company). Meanwhile, they can try to make WP popular while attracting more manufacturers.
Bottom line: they are chewing up Nokia until they are able to spit it.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2011I think Nokia should use android... I've read it in another site that microsoft have given nokia a billion$ to make the windows as their primary smartphone os(means to stay away from android). And the contract stay's for 5 years.

Why does everyone seem to slate Nokia but praise Apple? 'It's all about money to them', a) DUH, any business that doesn't think about turnover and profits is a bad business, b) What about Apple then? Essentially releasing the same product every year, with a few new features and bumping the price right up. That's not innovation. At least Nokia are trying. Admittedly, I don't like the WM platform, but then if Nokia went down the Android route, people would slate them for jumping on the band wagon. Nokia are struggling in an economic crisis, and in a very volatile market. I don't like the choices they've made, but at least they're trying.

according market analysts Nokia shareholders lost 26% of their money already....on their place i would sell one month ago. Motorola and SE have had simillar troubles on mobile market but they survived thanks to sinking Nokia. now Nokia will face fierce competition in order to regain market share. Selling Qt means they will not look back and bet 100% on MS WP7, 8, etc. Good luck to them... Last company which asked MS for help in consumer marked sold their business to Chinese (i'm talking about IBM)

I recently bought my second N5230 as I have felt on my friend's android that its good mainly for social networking and better graphic UI and for that it uses internet a lot and hence decreased battery life. Other then that I didnt feel any grave difference between the two. Kindly go through the link to enlighten you further:

Nokia got killed from three sides I mean 3 OS's
1- IOS
2- ANDROID
3- BADA! I know some dude going to say Bada it's nothing but Bada doing good job for his price and I think if samsung cares about Bada the Bada will replace Symbian for sure in sales and price.

i left nokia, due to releasing devices that are not fully tested. Quality control wasn't there. I might be lucky if i come across a nokia phone that is fully functional without any software glitch. The updates takes time. NOKIA SHOULD FOCUS ONE DEVICE AT A TIME, instead of racing for many designs and series. I don't know if they read or care about customers. Looks like just getting a device on the customers hand and grab the money. When there is a problem then more money they grab from you. They could've just focused more on the maemo. Now the collab with MS made me not even look at nokia anymore.
