Although Apple/HTC still very much into innovation but time will catch up, and they too will one day go down the same road like the rest, is all about money, nothing personal.

Nokia's alliance with WP7 does not save them from 'their burning platform'... WP7 is in essence what Elop was trying to avoid 'a closed ecosystem' and surprise, surprise, they adopt another closed OS ecosystem. The limitations and requirements on the WP7 OS will still make it difficult for Nokia to achieve what they promised to deliver (lowering the prices of WP7 handsets). Furthermore, WP7 releasing an update 'so you can have future updates', sounds all too comical from any angle.
As pointed out by a prior poster, Nokia lack vision and technological literacy in this field, now dominated by Apple and Android (Google). If Nokia shifted their primary concern from 'how much volume can we sell, ship and move' to 'how can we make improvements to our products, what do users want', more people would be inclined towards purchasing their products and their primary concern would be addressed and resolved.
Finally, the use of witty/cheeky advertisements like the C7's, does not leave a deep impression on it's intended target audience. Majority would be too preoccupied with the softcore porn than notice the insignificant mobile phone that it's trying to advertise and sell (I know I wasnt paying attention to the phone). This is only too evident on the comments posted here on GSM Arena when they posted the advertisement link...

When the nokia board of executives brought Elop in they knew what he was planning to do. WP7 is a very promising OS and the in-house Symbian development wasn't delivering. So to them it made business sense to partner with Microsoft.
Now why they wouldn't push for better results from their Symbian team or try to restructure it beats me.
I've come to the conclusion that Companies like Nokia, Microsoft, Sony, Samsung, LG, HTC etc... are run by strict BUSINESS MEN who only care about shipping volumes, Stock Market Prices and Profit Margins. They have no culture. And this is reflected upon their business tactics and evidently their products.
These people have no culture, no sense of aesthetics, no technology literature.
Opposite to them we see companies like Apple, Google, Nintendo etc... Who understand vision, the essence of a technological ecosystem and the importance of coherence in both hardware and software.
I'm sure Nokia will do well with their new smartphones. But they'll never again be innovators or visionaries. They are now in the same pack with Samsung and LG and generic hardware vendors.

The only purpose of Microsoft is to protect Microsoft's interests and dismantle Nokia with its most important projects in schedule, Symbian (for historical reasons) and its big brother Meego, which would bring to the user a taste of power and freedom to do whatever they want, in a completely free and open platform, in other words, Linux in the hands of millions. Now mobile computing is stuck in closed, limited but handsome platforms.

think of the movie Antitrust. funny how the "software company" had a head boss that looked quite a lot like bill gates...

Im sorry, but even if the two companies have good relations and all that , this deal still feels dirty... geeks and Devs are still going to know what went down.. It will tarnish the Nokia name. (Unless its already damaged and this is just going to cement it in.)

who cares, nokia has nothing to offer this year. Lets see what they can do in 2012. If feel bad for all the symbian devs who worked so hard chasing a mirage and suddenly have everything unfold on them.
