Blimey! Motorola Milestone 2.2 Froyo update is out

16 March, 2011
Believe it or not Motorola has just released the Android 2.2 update for the original Milestone. At this point most owners have probably either given up on their Motorola Milestones or taken the self-update...

Wow, Motorola good for you. Sad that Sony Ericsson can't learn something from you (though both of you need to learn from the other leading Android brands) and goes about giving an upgrade to the X10 range. Sony how about leap frogging and amazing your X10 client base with an 2.3 upgrade for the X10 range? I am sure you can do it, and its going to really help boost the brand confidence, coz the hardware is sexy and unique specially on the multimedia aspects.

Motorola offers for Milestone XT720 update version as well, it still be 2.1, I just wait to get a new update 2.2, but it was made me regretable if the version only for milestone itself.

hah! pretty pointless... I managed to work out how to root and then update to 2.2 Cyanogenmod. And it seems to be heaps better than what I can see from this update. Funnily enough we'll be getting Gingerbread soon! So yeah just check this out: http://android.doshaska.net/cm6

Updated last night. It runs slow, applications crash left right and centre, its basically unusable. Worst update ever! Without a phone now until I can somehow roll it back.

installing the Motorola Software Update and connecting my milestone, the software can read my IMEI, but not the Model number & Operator. After checking process, it return a message saying no software update currently available. What happened moto?

You may find it really surprising, but after all this terribly long waiting(!!!!), yesterday, after reading so many doubts on "do-official-update-or-not?" posted by lots of people around the internet, I decided to go for CyanogenMod7!

Wow, this was really good decision, and all the fears I've got for "updating my phone myself" disappeared when I was doing it (30 minutes in total).
Now I'm happy user of CM7 and MM is still great phone for me :)

Anyway, no doubt that next phone will be NOT-Motorola (probably HTC or Sammy) as the way Moto treats their customers is out of any comment.

Motorola sucks in terms of customer satisfaction. It is only concerned with the new cell phones as and when they create and hardly even care for their existing customers. GSMArena I request to kindly provide a note of Moto's customer satisfaction whenever you give reviews for any of their new cell phones. Atleast those who haven't bought can be made aware of Moto's policy which just sucks

Someone should really sue the s**t out of crappy Motorola. I dont' get it, why was/is there so much hype about the Milestone even though, frankly speaking, it is the most unstable phone i have ever had. Plus Motorola should really be ashamed of this act of their. I mean the whole world is now moving onto gingerbread/honeycomb and here we are with Motorola coming up with Froyo and that too about half an year later than when it was released in the US (the update i.e.). No wonder Motorola's losing at every telecommunication front out there!

I am probably the only person having Milestone in my country and had feeling be exclusive... 2.1 Was slow and had disabled all the animations and said NO to live wallpapers. I was waiting for something new to tell my friends: "I upgraded 2.2 and my mobile is like a jet"... BUT the only feeling I have now is I will NEVER buy Motorola again.
2.2 is extremely slow! For incoming call phone needs more than 5 seconds to realize all touchscreen functionality (answering slide).

This conclude to a loss for Motorola, I'm joining other league with Samsung or HTC and will do my utmost to bring friends to stay away from them.

installed 2.2 about an hour ago.
Things i notice was it runs alot slower than 2.1, flash in browsers is useless(its like watching a slide show), my market place is really glitchy and the phone as written in a previous comment just freezes or slows down as soon as you exit an app.
All in all i am now downgrading back to 2.1 for the rest of my contract then putting the phone through a crusher, instead of selling it on so not too torment some unfortunate sod that buys this horrible aweful phone with its shocking support from motorola.

The interface seems nice and snappy once it gets going but a BIG problem for me is the length of time (about 20 seconds!) the phone takes to reload the homescreen after exiting apps (browser, games etc). Anyone else having the same problem or able to suggest a solution? (I'm not even running a live wallpaper). Thanks

i have same problem and more,it turns off.this is not god,i am angry because it works good, very good on 2.1,i dont know if i can make an downgrade.i dont like it,it;s more slower....motoidiots.

One thing that might be a problem after the Froyo update is data transfer speeds using the USB cable. When in "Motorola phone portal" mode, transferring files for some people is incredibly slow - for me it was less than 100 kbps. This seems to affect USB tethering too.

For me it's much faster (i.e. behaves OK) in "mass storage" mode. Google for "Motorola slow usb data froyo" and do some research.

It makes the phone slower and graphics is noticeably worse. In fact if you slide between screens, the colour changes to 8 bit momentarily :( Game performance is worse than before...
