Weekly poll results: Galaxy S8 a bit pricey, voters want value for money

02 April 2017
To be fair, the rumored price (mentioned in the poll) proved higher than the official retail price.

This is the most exciting flagship smartphone Samsung had ever launched. $720 is not a bad price for it when you consider what you get. (Infinity Display, SD 835, Iris Scanner, Multiframe Processing camera, BT 5.0, 1 gigabit LTE, a new-generation batteries that maintain 95% of its orginal capacity in a year time frame, etc)

Seriously, the Infinity Display itself makes the Galaxy S8 worth buying.

For that price, people expected huge changes like from the S5 to S6. S6 to S7 wasn't really that much of a change either, but the design was refreshed, addressed the issues the S6 faced, and even added a new camera. S7 to S8 did nothing but upgrade the SoC, added Bixby, shaved up the useful bezels, improved image processing while maintaining the same hardware (not the sensor though), added Iris Scanner and Face Recognition, removed the Homd Button, added front facing camera autofocus and improved quality, and even degraded the battery (3,600 vs 3,500 of this year on a 6.2" screen, good luck with the endurance).

    How about others?
LG improved the design and build quality, changed the camera setup and image processing, shaved up a lot of useful bezels in a nicer way than Samsung did, improved the battery, improved the screen quality (G5 was barely 900nits bright), improved the audio (not for US variants), and added useful features like IP rating.

Sony upgraded the SoC, introduced a new world's first 4K HDR display, world's first memory-stacked image sensor, world's first super slow mo 960fps in a smartphone, world's first commercial SD835-powered device, and even world's first BT 5.0-supported device. They improved the camera, the image processing, the screen, the battery, the audio, the build quality, the software, the performance, and the list goes on.

Seriously, why is everybody so biased? What makes an overpriced Samsung phone worth it? Just because it is a Samsung? Come on people, Samsung makes great devices, but it's hard to say that the S8 series are worth for the price that they are asking foe

Id rather buy the XZ Premium from Sony.
Better specs and software optimization, less bloatware, faster upgrades, better quality build.
I like the design of the S8, but that displays screams to be broken on it's first fall.
I'm not a cheap person but I'd never pay so much for a Samsung. A few years ago Samsung used to be the cheapest alternative along with LG. They are WAAAY too overrated.
Also, i always root my phones from day one and I'm upset that sammy doesn't allow bootloader unlocking on their website like Sony does.
Having an android flagship without root is like having a car without wheels or keys from my point of view. Pointless.

Try to understand guys... What is there with such kind of screen??? Only more vulnerable to breakage.
S8 lacks any sort of serious change from the S7 edge.

                    The back is "Samsungish" boring.
                    Camera doesn't look upgraded.
Bixbi cannot be better than Google Assist.

So, return on investment is nowhere.

I would say it has a pretty reasonable price. Compared to g6, you lose the wide angle camera but you also gain awesome display and sexy looks. In the end, it's a matter of preference.

Sasmung's flagships are in the down low and they don't help their chances by producing unimpressive phones at ... impressive prices.

To translate the news: 72% of tech enthusiast acknowledge that S8 is an overpriced bigger-screen S7 and that it's not worth, but we are so few that many people will buy it nevertheless.

People are obsessed with dirt cheap Chinese phones these days. Feel sorry for them they have never experienced iPhone, Samsung or Sony.

Are you sure about your pricing? The s8+ is on pre-order here at €770 with the freebies which is a lot cheaper than the 32gb iPhone 7 plus.

i seriously don't see any value for money phone you can actually buy right now that can compete with s8...the current argument is to wait out for the next oneplus or xiaomi..but thats the thing..this price is the premium for not having to wait...no i don't support the price..if they can sell it for half the price 6months later and throw in a tv too as an offer they can do that right now...

                                      Agree
