hristov, 28 Mar 2011I am sick of all Apple puckers. Just for your info a friend... moreJust bring it to an Apple store or from where he bought it and they will fix or replace it. He can also try and restore the firmware himself. It's an iPhone 4 and it's still under warranty.

@B.S. WorkS you could count the people whove bricked their samsung phones on one hand, they all have a bootloader, so even if you mess up your phone beyond use, you can just reflash a firmware on it..

anyway, this is cool but theres no real improvements from froyo, i suggest getting a custom rom, theyre farther along..

So far, it is giving better response time than Froyo.

Captivate is AT&T branded Galaxy S, and like many of the AT&T branded devices, the firmware is different from the international version. You'll have to root your Captivate and flash to install. Expect to see a lot of features different

WORKED with a few problems!! READ my mini review before you flash your phone and freak out at any problems.

**BACKUP YOUR PHONE CONTACTS/DOCUMENTS/APPS/IMPORTANT STUFF/ETC BEFORE YOU UPGRADE. I lost all my free apps. My paid ones were saved on Android Market**

I flashed my i9000 GT from FROYO to GINGERBREAD just as the instructions said. Here are some details for comparison's sake; I bought my phone from India ON THE DAY IT LAUNCHED. It came with Eclair > then I installed Froyo through the registry hack > and a couple of hours ago, I flashed Gingerbread via ODIN.

                      A few things first:

                      - I had OneClickLagFix (OCLF) installed on Froyo and **I'm assuming** that the "extra" partition that OCLF made seemed to conflict with the flashing process (showed several 'coms' in Odin). On my first try, Odin erased my phone and reinstalled a fresh copy of Froyo. HOWEVER; it worked on my second try (I think the first try erased the 'ext' partition from OCLF and made room for gingerbread because there was only one 'coms' section in ODIN - as the video shows).

                      - After the phone rebooted, the screen went all 'scrambled and static'. It's hard to explain. It's like regular grey static mixed with coloured pixels. It should have shown the extracting, installing, caching etc etc stuff instead. But after this part the animation logo came on and it worked just fine.

                      - (Minor issue but worth mentioning) When you tap the 'Applications' icon, the fading animation that takes you to the apps page is still not as smooth. As described below, the phone feels better...and Samsung haven't updated their TouchWiz 'skin' to Gingerbread's standard.

Those are the only issues I've had. So now to the cool stuff:

                      - I HAVE GINGERBREAD AND I LOVE IT!!!
                      - It is immensely quick and extremely responsive compared to Froyo. Scrolling and swiping are extremely smooth now (almost like iOS -if not better than). As you reach the end of lists, the scroll slows more gradually (I like).
                      - Changed status bar and notification drop-down. Smaller battery/wifi/signal indicators. Darker wifi/bt/gps icons in the drop-down with green indicator bars under them (when enabled)
                      - EVEN ANDROID MARKET FEELS SMOOTH. Scrolling is much improved as compared to froyo. No more skippy/stoppy/laggy motions.
                      - Everything works: Wifi/BT/GPS etc including tethering.
                      - Samsung Apps now has a new "FOR ANDROID" section (This may be a separate thing from Samsung, but I only noticed it now so I assume it's Gingerbread exclusive).
                      - Did I mention the phone it Blisteringly Fast?
                      - I did not run any benchmark tests but the phone runs all my apps smoother. Ninja Rush is an example. It used to skip frames and glitch most of the time on Froyo...not any more though.
                      - The Lock Screen (the dot-pattern one) is also modified. The black rings around the dots now have a more 3D-coloured appearance when you slide your fingers over them.
                      - There is a new 'DOWNLOADS' icon in the apps screen. I havent tested it yet but I assume it shows downloads made from the internet browser.
                      - If you have a lot of apps, then you also have a lot of pages. Remember how you can tap the dots on top to jump through the different screens? Remember how laggy it was? Not anymore. It's now super smooth.
                      - When you turn off your phone, the closing animation is extremely fluid. The starting one however is not. Still the same old laggy S.

Thats about all I have discovered. Still playing with it.
I recommend you wait for a couple more weeks for the OFFICIAL rom via KIES if you dont want the messed up 'scrambled-static' screen everytime you reboot.

Other than that, if you ARE going to upgrade, BACKUP ALL YOUR STUFF..and follow the instructions step by step.

                      Happy Gingerbreading :)

[deleted post]Galaxy S hasn't lagged since the 2.2 firmwares silly. Since the 2.2.1 releases there is no need for Lagfix apart for benchmark numbers. This 2.3.3 firmware certainly doesn't require it. The X10 is a premium device? Please.

[deleted post]You do realise Apple only designs the phone, and does not manufacture the parts? Guess who does then? iPhones are a hodgepodge of parts from other manufacturers, so before you start talking garbage about Samsung, Sharp, LG etc, take a look down into your hand at the technological mongrel you carry around with you.

I wasn't too happy with it. It ran well - to a degree. Improvement in weather widget. I found the internet browser laggy and don't like the checkered pattern when refreshing. The new text editing seemed clumsy to me. Facebook detects the phone as a Nexus. You couldn't set USB mode to prompt. I kept getting funny popping noises during phone calls. All apps are lost during the install. I think 2.2.1 is better. The ROM does not appear to be complete. I rolled back to 2.2

i have 2 galaxy s and 1 galaxy tab, i tried flashing one to the said firmware, and it slowed down the touch responses, it takes 3 seconds to respond to your touch, i regret it, now i have to change to another firmware.
