I have the n8, I work for a UK mobile network and had it as a staff phone because my wife wanted a good camera. Where is it now? Sitting in a draw gathering dust as we use a Desire and Desire HD. Great photo and video quality but symbian 3?! It's the clunkiest, badly put together, awkward and crappy OS a smart phone could have. Wp7 is the best move Nokia have made since the n95.

Nokia needs to make a menu that is more dense with icons, not they sparsely populated 3x4 icons. It's more efficient and looks better.

Symbian is to Nokia what BADA is to Samsung. Remember BADA was created by Samsung after they pulled out of Symbian. They needed something to run on their feature phones. I guess cheap touch phones will have some market in the future particularly in countries like India where phones mostly are sold SIM free and are not carrier subsidised. Therefore Nokia surely will continue with the touch Symbian^3.
Nokia actually face problems of having more OSes than they can handle.
Symbian^3 (which couldn't keep upto competition)
Windows Phone 7 (To keep up with competition)
& Meego (Their supposedly MID OS)
Also Symbian is one of the two only surviving non-touch OSes along with Blackberry's OS. So it seems it will live in atleast the non-touch world.
So is this possible : Symbian^3 for cheap touch phones, Windows Phone7 for high end touch phones, Symbian S60 for non touch smart phones and Meego for Tablets. But this will create huge problems for developers as convergence among different platforms become complex.
Nokia has their hands more fuller than they might have wanted it to be.

I really love my n8 and that is great news .. I was at the ctia show and got a lil worried .. Please send the updates and the faster browser sounds awesome .. Symbian 3 is all good .. Alot of people dont want to take the time to learn it .. It is as good as apple os and its right there with windows .. But android is a whole new ballgame .. I can only hope it gets that good .. I am just one person with an opinion and thanks for the time ..

vasra, 28 Mar 20111st: Symbian sucks, it's the burning platform.
2nd: All of... moreWhat?
Considering a phones life in the hands of a user can be about 18 months to 2 years then Symbian has a lot to offer. Cheaper priced handsets (The N8 is coming down in price) and promises of updates, make the top end symbian handsets very attractive to buy right now.

You bashers and Android fan boys (usually one in the same) crack me up. Not sure why you stop by other than to spill your hate as you hide behind a keyboard but it is rather pathetic.
As a current N8 user I am excited about any sort of refresh. I bought the N8 knowing it was a solid telephone and hands down has the best camera on the market. The OS, while visually is rather unappealing....does get the job done. I plan on hanging around for the update.

I believe this is a fortutous move for Nokia. They basically insiuate that the devices that use symbian 3 would forge on some more.

no matter, 28 Mar 2011Oh god, those new icons looks awfull. Style looks so childish. If you think this is the final UI of nokia than you're wrong. Nokia has more UI sample. This is just a review of Icon. Anyway gsmarena is so slow at posting news. Endaget and other site already got this news two days ago ha ha hz....

Yeah... I'm not liking those new icons. They're too "cutsey". They're like hieroglyphics... You almost need a linguist and anthropologist to decipher what they mean! Those pictograms are not as explicit as the current style. Fail!

Nokia could not die off Symbian3 to early or there sales chart an shares would have kept dropping more, they hoped to sell 150 million symbian phones in 2011 but how quiet Nokia have been this year is amazing loads of its followers, hope the updates now start being released now to keep to this promise or loads of people will be alternative mobiles instead,Nokia should have kept quiet about the Microsoft deal an amazed people in 2012 when there new smartphones would have been ready for release, hope we do see some new Symbian3 phones soon,we have seen the X7 that should be released soon on 3

judging by the Bubbles application and how butter smooth it is even on a lame ARM11 processor, Im inclined to believe that a Symbian3 smartphone with a 1Ghz A9 processor+Qt UX will be overkill fer the Androids. Even if they run 2Ghz quad-core CPUs
