mobile phone is useful when you're outside and waiting for something,
like queue in supermarket, atm machine, bank, waiting at airport, train station, etc..
on those cases I usually use phone to read pdf, e-mail, listen music, playing game, etc.. so I don't waste my valuable time doing nothing..

First, I discovered that I do 90% of listed tings on regular basis. That's kinda scary...But whats important: I am dropping my smartphone on the floor once a week - it's by no means "feature" but it's on equal, or higher importance than, let's say calendar... seriously. So, metal frame, or better, full metal body is essential.

People in India like me need some abilities in smartphones for long 'power on'. There are a lot of power cuts and 1000mAh just doesn't cut it. We need faster data connections(not to mention cheaper). Oh, we need Gingerbread and Honeycomb too.

Phone OS should have the Options for the Rihgt Hand and Left Hand User. All the Mobiles are Right Hand Operated, No Left hand Operations.

- Scan (2D) barcodes
- Scan NFC tags or interact with other phones using NFC

You forgot something called "phoning" although this seems not to be essential any more as a requirement on the latest.. phones.

I don't like Touch Bar phone as it needs both hands to operate. One hand to grab the Phone and the Second hand to do the Gestures.
If you don't agree with me then Post the Videos that Touch Phone may be operated with only One Hand.

I like a Great Camera with Great Screen Quality. Beautiful Graphics are my weakness and cause me to choose a phone. Just like mini computer that is able to help me to perform my normal work if i don't have a computer.i don't like the social network but like to see movies with my friend on the mobile. so great screen, great camera and great sound are needed to me. and speedy work is my passion.
however you have not included CDMA Network phones in your phone Filter Option.

First off I want to say great idea for an article. I use most of the features in my phone throughout my daily life. I take more photos and videos than I make calls or text and I also upload and share them online and with friends and family. I listen to a lot of podcast and music on my phone and I also share photos and videos over Bluetooth. I do most of my web surfing when I'm near free public hotspots. I don't enjoy watching videos on my phone as its screen resolution is not enough and the screen size is rather small. I'm not an app guy apart from opera and fring. When I get a high res android that can play xvid and take great photos and vids then I'll convert.

Nice idea.. May be you can add an option for every phone for users to vote in which area the phone is really good at and useful.. Along with scores for Design Performance and features..

The most important question is not how do we use our phone, but why do we buy our phone. You should actually do 2 parts of survey, one asking how do we use are phone and the other, why did we bought our phone.
I think that, besides useful statistical data it will be very interesting to see how much those 2 questions or should i say answers differ.

Different regions in the world have different basic needs from a cellphone. For example here in the US and most first world countries OS, Apps, and High speed internet (3G/4G) on a mobile are more important. As apposed to most all third world countries camera mega pixels and multimedia capabilities are more important.. Seems like less and less the "cellphone" is being used for its intended purpose.. making and receiving phone calls!

i still have a very old 'smartphone' by nokia from 2006! N i am not going to change it before say another year i think.for me the most important features will be:
web browsing
music+movies
games
battary that lasts atleast a whole day so that i can plug it to charge when i go to bed,

would be nice to have a check along side each feature to see if that feature was important for the buyer when he/she bought the phone. so, after one completes the survey, at the end he/she will have a visual display of reasons that bought the phone vs real usage of the phone afterwards.
