bbuddy, 30 Apr 2017Dear Google very disappointed after Reading that Android O... moreNothing has changed, all phone manufacturer generally has given updates for 2 year

All phone makers pay Google for running Android, do Nougat costs more than Marshmallow, which in turn cost more than Lollipop,
So you sell a new phone with the latest Android as just updating old phones means it cost more without selling any new phones.

The security patches are just that, Google is now in the process of "Anti Virus", as well those in the Anti Virus,
Google are testing Android for any potential back door Google has failed to close.

Third party apps do almost the same, and loophole that day Stagecoach or similar are already blocked and variants are bound to fail.
Before Google addressed Stagecoach it was up to these to deal with the threat, so phones can't be taken over

    Dear Google

This is why people buy apple even if they are too much restricted. Google come on why you cant give update to all your phones ? at least pixel, nexus should have those updates.

Why does this even deserve an article? I thought support for the Pixel had been extended. Its hardly a selling point now to be fair because most manufacturer flagships are supported for nearly the same time now. Google needs to up its game in that area.

GPE edition isn't even a question. Give me an S8 GPE and I'll gladly dump my iPhone for android. Samsung have the best designs on Android. Google should really do everything they can to get them to make the next Pixel.

Three years of security updates, on a device, and then it is intentionally made obsolete. It's pathetic. And they act like this is some grand big promise they're making.

Can you imagine if desktop computers or laptops were treated this way? I think Microsoft supported Windows XP for fourteen years. And even after that you could still upgrade your computer to the next version of Windows.

Even Apple, who generally I don't like, isn't this bad. Google should be ashamed.

Guess I'll have to recommend Apple for people who don't want to buy a new phone every 2 years.

Visually, the UI look almost the same. But of course most phone even the cheapest one should come at least with Marshmallow. I would recommend those looking for midranger and budget phone to wait next year when Nougat become a norm. Like seriously, for me Nougat is a big overhaul from previous android version. Its simply features rich. A budget phone running Nougat is goal.

To be honest though.. Android is great because there are basically 3 major versions of it supported anyway.. plus the newest one. My old galaxy s4 is still fine because android 4.4 is still the oldest major version and then you have the s4 on android 5.. so it will still be fine for a few more years.. who cares about updates Unless it REALLY offers something different. So even after your current android dosnt get the very latest one.. It still has a good life cycle left.. at the moment you still have android 6,5 + 4.4 as the major versions and supported.. I'm not bothered that I have one of my devices (J5 06) on android 6.. its basically the same as 7..

I knew this was gonna happen, hoped it wouldn't, but it has.
                              Nexus/Pixel's hey-day is over.

Now the best bet seems to be to get the phone with good specs and the best developer support. So far that's the OnePlus 3 (and 3T).
The only problem with those phones is that they're gsm radio frequencies are very limited meaning they only work in selective countries, unlike say an iPhone which supports practically most of the gsm networks people need.

I'm hoping to upgrade to the OnePlus 5, hoping it supports the gsm frequencies I need.
                              In particular, 700MHz LTE.

While I really want to jump-ship to Apple for their excellent support, and fast intuitive devices... I can't do so because the lack of headset jack, limitations in iOS, and the poor-experience with the Apple Watch prevent me so.

A Stock Clean Android is much better and capable for me, whilst the superior AndroidWear devices help lock me into this ecosystem.

AnonD-387282, 28 Apr 2017Iphone 5 from 2012 can still be updated until this year 201... moreIphone have great update system with long term support but there is one thing that not so good about it. Yes, you can update iphone 6 for 5 years since launch till 2019. But hardware wise it is incredibly not future-proof unlike android phone. Oddly android phone hardware are future-proof for a good 3-5 years the most but lack software support. Hardware is more important as the apps requirement are always changing. Older hardware may not be able to support future apps. Like display for example, 750p display from iphone cant support 1080p youtube video. In gaming, some games only support phone that have quad core and above. Some phone cannot support the gpu requirement of the games. Also, some apps require specific clock speed from the phone for the app to be installed.

AnonD-425519, 28 Apr 2017Never had an iPhone but I agree, it is something to conside... moreOne thing about pixel and nexus though is that you can root them with the latest android version if Google stop updating them. Unlike iphone which will stuck in that particular ios version forever after 5 years of update.
