krystian, 02 May 2017If consumers have proven anything is that they want simplic... moreyou have a point, about thats ms need to make a alliance with majority dev to por w32 app to the store.. but this is a thing thats MS dont do when they need 4 year ago.. is the same dilema and the same situacion of windows 8 apps, before of universall app, do you remember windows RT? is the same but with the support of 32 bits and 64 bit... i dont undertand what are on the mind of MS, theyr release a expensive laptop with a limited os, when i hear about a surface laptp i think on something cheap more close of 399 us or less and more with a cloud like os....

FortunatelyOS is upgradable from 10S to 10 pro.
I suspect no-S model outsells S by wide margin

Port selection isn't good. Should've included a Thunderbolt 3 port instead of a Mini DisplayPort (+ a SD card slot). I mean, come one MS, USB-C is the future... looking forward to Pro 5 with USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port.

AnonD-39937, 02 May 2017a touchscreen in a clamshell is useless, man, it even lower... moreMacBooks don't have it as they can't have it. macOS doesn't support touch based interface. Future belongs to touch based computers. In benchmarks this laptop has better battery backup than macs. Let's see what real life usage brings us. Competition is must for consumers otherwise there would be monoply of a single brand to do whatever they want.

That is not an SD card slot. That's the proprietary surface connector for charging or plugging in the surface dock

"Surface Laptop" is pretty disappointing for the Surface legacy...they proved that touchscreen it's good only in an 2-1 form and now they enter in war with Macbook Air/Pro with a touchscreen non 2-1 device, which is basically a 2-years old Surface Book in one piece and Kaby Lake CPU?(no USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 in a premium laptop???)...Microsoft shoots itself in the foot with this one...1)even 200$ laptops have USB-C nowadays ; 2)all premium laptops have at least one Thunderbolt 3 port(for example: HP Spectre x360, Apple Macbook Pro, Dell XPS) 3) if you want touchscreen then Surface Pro 4(another 2-years old device) kills this joke of a laptop 4) if you want basic laptop then a Macbook Pro or a Dell XPS kill this joke of a laptop 5) so this device is just to promote "Windows 10 S, Microsoft's education-oriented OS", a response to Chrome OS.

PLAYER SLAYER, 02 May 2017Windows 10 S? I'm sorry, but between that, and the cripplin... moreIf consumers have proven anything is that they want simplicity.
They don't want to go to the web looking for their app, getting some malware ridden site with 20 download links to choose from and then finally going through some crazy setup screen to get their stuff installed. They just want 1 source they can trust to install their apps.
MS just has to partner with the top apps based on analytics to get them into the store using project centennial. It still runs w32 apps just through the store.
They already started getting some decent games in there recently. Apps I don't really look at those cuz i'm not an app user but getting something like newsleecher in there would be nice. They are already bringing office, spotify and a bunch of apps in there. All the same apps running the same way just from a single source.
Honestly I would prefer to just use the store. They just really need to refine tiles. Get rid of live tiles, notification center takes care of everything. And create more uniformity with the design rules. Not some big loud tiles. Maybe same as android icons inside the tile itself and then let people change the transparency like on mobile so they can go full transparent and it looks like android or do customizations etc..
It will also be easier on developers as they won't need to get different assets from designers.
Anyways they have some time before it's released.

PLAYER SLAYER, 02 May 2017Windows 10 S? I'm sorry, but between that, and the cripplin... moreSome of u r best in pointing out only negatives. This is a fabulous laptop and you can upgrade it Windows 10 Pro if you don't want Windows S. Stop saying high price, this laptop has that in it. Build quality, stylus, touch enabled, best in class battery backup , thin , light etc etc.

Microsoft thinks that 13.5in. is large enough, just like Apple thinks that 15in is large enough.
I don't buy any laptop that has a display less than 17in.
I can't understand why they make small screened laptops so expensive when it's obvious they're not for serious work but only for drawing or leisure, unless you have an external monitor.
If Microsoft gave more options, they would have more sales.
Those crippled laptops with hardly any connection are useless.
I love my Alienware for that reason. Everything I want: full colorful backlit keyboard with 10 extra customizable buttons, excellent Full HD IPS matte screen (17.3 in.), quad core i7, 5 hard drive slots I believe, I'm using 2, 16GB ram, powerful NVIDIA GTX 970m, super sound quality with a mini subwoofer (Klipsch). 4 USB 3.0 ports (among other ports), I can plug Alienware's (Dell's) external system if I want to upgrade the graphics card to use any Desktop one.
