04 May 2017

I don't care so much about the audio jack, but fully agree that phones with non-removable battery do not deserve more than 300 euro and that we should unite in not buying phones cripled on purpose by the makers.

Anonymous, 05 May 20173.5mm can never be better then usb-c Pure physics. Bad p... moreThat makes no sense. You need a DAC somewhere; your ears can't hear digital signals.
3.5mm jack is ubiquitous for a reason. It's convenient, it's reliable and it works very well. The only thing it doesn't have going for it is size.
The audio really can't be better on USB-C - at best it can be on par. You could argue that USB-C enables some new features but it really doesn't do anything for audio quality than move the DAC out of your device and into your audio equipment.

There is one problem though. No one is implementing USB-C audio properly so most devices use proprietary solutions that are incompatible with every other headset than the one that came in the box. So until USB-C takes off in the audio equipment world and manufacturers follow standards, it's useless and therefore much, much worse than the 3.5mm jack.

Anonymous, 05 May 20173.5mm can never be better then usb-c Pure physics. Bad p... moreThis is not about 3.5mm headphone jack being better than USB Type-C or the other way. It's all about letting peoples having a choice on what to use that works best for them and not what works best for the different brands.

And it's also to not prevent anyone from charging their phones while they listen to musics.

Not only that, but Samsung has shown it that it's all possible to make a water and dust resistant smartphone that still have a 3.5mm headphone jack. And on top of that, take a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGAQV5vnINI

Now that's pretty embarrasing for Apple. And if Samsung can do this good, then Apple and others can do the same. No excuses for that.

"Otherwise, for this device (whatever it is) we’re expecting a performance bump from the Honor 8’s HiSilicon Kirin 655 chipset"
            Honor 8 has Kirin 950 not 655.

Fail!! What they needed to copy was the small bezels, not the lack of wired headsets...

Now the Honor 9 too, it is the most insignificant thing to do. First Motorola (Lenovo), then Apple, HTC as well and now this too. Really shame on them all. Mostly because there is 95% no plausible reason why to ditch it, if it was really big I would be the first to agree with them, but in fact it doesn't takes a lot of internal space, so it is absolutely non sense thing/trend to do/ditch. So again shame on them all.

AnonD-667062, 05 May 2017Honor 8 has the Kirin 950...That's the 1st thing come in mind when I saw the article write's Kirin 655.

I'm ditching you two but you still didn't know

What needs to happen is people stop buying these products that don't have headphone jack so they realise it's a bad move

I vote for purity of signal not another circuit like iPhone jack and now htc...

Copycat syndrome but not better audio.

Plain and simple.. - purity of audio signal FTW!

AnonD-664474, 05 May 2017I'm an audiophile person as I'm looking forward for an HTC ... moreYes, in the mobile world those 3 (plus the lg v10) have the best audio quality. But they pale in comparison with PCs or proper portable audiophile DACs. I own a Sennheiser HD439. I have tried it with the Lg v20. The quality is definitely the best I've seen from a mobile. But its nothing (the sound is still very muddy) compared to what I get in my PC thanks to the creative sound blaster zx I own.
Using the typeC port for digital output and a DAC positioned at one of the ear-cups maybe, the distortion can be greatly reduced (computing 101 - a distorted digital signal can be restored completely because unlike analogue which is just random voltages, digital is only 0 or a 1, making it much easier to identify even after being distorted) resulting in a much clearer sound. Such audio products are still very expensive (upwards of 250-300 USD - mdr-1adac by sony ).

And finally. The only things an iphone is good for are:
                          1. great camera.
                          2. crazy performance
                          3. well optimized OS
                          4. and great battery life on standby.

A typeC connector made of pure gold won't help improve the audio quality of iphones. I mean, they advertise beats as quality audio equipment, how can you even think they have good audio.

Another reason the audio products like the one i mentioned are going to be much better on the long run. These things will only use the DAC built into them. Not the crappy one your phone probably has. So it wont matter what DAC your phone has, the audio quality will always be great.

The concern is NOT, IMHO, about USB-C vs headphone jack sound quality

The key issue is *reduction* of a port. So you cannot charge your phone while using the headphone.

Had they replaced the 3.5mm jack with another USB-C (or lightning) port, I would not have had an issue here.

If taking all your statements as true statements, every reviewer praises those 3 phones for high grade audio jack quality, while I never heard of the iPhone 7/7 Plus with such great impedance jack. At least the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter does deliver a nice quality sound, but that's the adapter's DAC in the headphone jack and not from the Lightning Port. I have no big hopes for USB C headset quality, but I'd be interested to see the results overall. I can't find any audio jack quality review for the U Ultra, or at least not that I'm looking for it, but when there is, I will

I already skip expensive phones due to the non-removable batteries (If they insist my phone having an expiration date, then i'm not gonna pay tons of money for it), so i wasn't gonna buy it anyway and i'll boycott any other phone without a 3.5mm jack.

With the non-removable batteries, i'd never pay more than $300 for the current ridiculous fashionphones and if they remove the jacks too, then i guess i won't give them $150, because with their out of control madness and greed, they don't deserve more. And if the phone is gonna suck badly anyway, then why pay more?

If the majority of us did this, then they would reconsider their disrespectful policies and offer something worthy. But no, unfortunately they'll keep buyigng and it'll keep getting worse. Just like the political climate in our countries due to people still cheering for the "left" or "right".
