Well kind of, depending on the price you're paying on the phone.
If it was for example a Samsung Flagship, I definitely think it would be good for there to be some extras such as ear buds as it can add to the quality look to what you're paying for.
However if it is a cheaper smartphone, I don't think it really matters as long as the essentials such as Adapter & Charging Cable are there.

Samsung Galaxy S8 provides the best package with a $100 headphones from AKG which are even better than my Philips high end headphones, adaptive fast charger, Type C to USB and Type C to micro USB 2 adapter all this in a beautiful box. It doesn't feel like buying something without these additional things.

Whoever has the money for a flagship should spare some more and get quality headphones. Bundled headphones make sense for the cheaper smartphones though - helps one save a few more bucks.

yes box contents do matter- must have whats needed ..also shows if manufacturer cares or unncaring ..smart sellers vs shortsellers ..

A must content in the box should be a leather case since phones are getting thinner and materials are getting light with big screens.
A simple,slim but protective leather case should be a must content.

a good pair of earphones is always good to toss into a backpack. and those usb cables do come in handy..otherwise thrid party multiport chargers and headphones are my usual drivers...its nice to get the usb adapters or otg adapters too...most extra accessories are usually offered by third party shops, and they do sell flagships at cheaper prices than amazon or ebay...

Hmmmmmm this is quite an interesting subject.
Myself personally always buy a decent set of 3.5 jack headphones (take note companies who try to force us to USB 'C')!
To me all that matters with my phone is a decent fast charger, Rather than other rubbish I would appreciate a decent phone case included with the phone.
Headphones are down to individual preference and most stock headphones included are not that good anyways.

If a phone costs $400 and support Quick Charge then I'd expect it to at least come with a Quick charger. Phone costing over $600 should come with quality Quick charger and earphones. On the other hand phones costing less than $400 should concentrate more on the phone itself then the accessories.

if you're paying over $600 the phone should come with some pretty great accessories, but if you're paying $400ish as long as it's got a QC or 2A+ charger is pretty reasonable.

Rather than bundled I would rather a manufacturer sold quality accessories for a low price via Amazon or their own online site. Low quality accessories and high prices are certainly not welcome. It can be time consuming and expensive looking for after market accessories, as there is so much junk on the market.

Phone and charger only is good enough. I have plenty of headphones, maybe a case is nice too. Some manufacturers already include in in the box.

Of course it matters. Most people would just use the included charger and earphones anyway. Having an earphone included in the box is a big convenience. Most people just want a functioning earphone to listen to their songs and have little care about the audio quality. (But having a bundled high-quality earphones is a big bonus). Also, I like how some manufacturers, like Samsung, included a Micro-USB to USB-A adapter. That adapter can be super handy. (for example, hooking a flash drive)
