Xiaomi left out the headphone jack on the Mi 6 for bigger battery

05 May 2017
Not having a headphone jack on this 5.1-inch display phone allowed them to increase the battery size over the Mi 5.

I'd much rather be able to plug them in over getting a slightly longer battery (which will still need charging every day)

Calculations show that the capacity of the battery in Xiaomi phones is related to the size of the case. For instance, the Redmi Note 4 has a 22% bigger case than the Mi 6 and its battery capacity is 23% bigger. Hence, removing the 3.5mm jack from the Mi 6 has done absolutely nothing for battery capacity. Why do manufacturers need to lie to justify ditching the 3.5mm jack? Is it because they are ashamed that the real reason is to copy Apple? But Apple did so for financial reasons, in order to sell more of their expensive wireless AirPods. Also, Apple can force its fans to pay for an adapter unlike Android manufacturers who will need to bundle it free. It is disgraceful that they feel that they have to be Apple copycats in order to stay relevant.

I would happily take the headphone jack over the extra 350mah battery. That way I dont have to worry about charging one more extra bluetooth device just to listen to my music. Couple that with the low quality music over Bluetooth devices, its a no-brainer for me. You need to convert the digital signal to analog signal inside that wireless headphone. So, production of more circuitry, more resource wastage, more mercury battery production and more e-waste. So, no thank you. I want my headphone jack back, don't want you to make more money by selling wireless headphones, which we obviously don't need. but the need is created by the industry.

Xiaomi increased the battery capacity of the Mi 6 by 12% over the Mi 5. About half of this was due to increasing the size of the case. The other half may have been achieved using a denser battery or else it’s fake since it’s very easy to lie about battery capacity. There is no space saving from eliminating the 3.5mm jack. Manufacturers think that we are stupid. If they really have our convenience in mind, they would make the battery removable so that we can carry a spare. This would be preferable to having to carry an adapter to make up for loss of the 3.5mm port.

AnonD-257034, 05 May 2017They have excellent internal DACs. You can buy external DAC... moreThe external DACs use the same chips and amplifiers so your argument is unvalid. It depends on the Controller + DAC + Pre-amp combo of the device/smartphone/external DAC, but they all use the same suppliers with the same chips. Like how most smartphones use Qualcomm for socs, and it just really depends with how much RAM it's paired with, the storage speed, etc.

Anonymous, 05 May 2017Then why's there a difference in between their quality? Dac... moreWell, DACs are parameterised and their sound signature can be configured. Moreover, it is not the only link in the audio chain (the is usually a streaming controller and pre-amplifier coupled to it) and their noise levels all add to the audio stream. Not to mention it has to be properly laid out to avoid interference, and the output of the DAC is also completely dependent on the stability of the voltage source.

So that's why they sound different. And the fiio uses a really high quality DAC, so it really is no suprise that it sounds good. However, I doubt it "blows" most smartphones out of the water. Most likely it just includes a pre-amplifier which isn't usually included in smartphones (meaning - it's louder and adds to the unique sound signature, but not necessarily better audio quality).

Ya, bigger battery can be the excuse for those huge top and bottom bezels too. With those bezels couldn't they manage to include there and facing front the stereo speakers? Must not be great stereo effect to play a game or watch a videoclip with both speakers pointing to the same side.

I heard a rumour that iPhone 8 is going to ditch the lightning port because iPhone 8 is going wireless charging. The best part is wireless charger is sold separately. No head phone port n no charging port is the future trend. Apple is gonna suck all your money.
