Yikes. If they needed to remove that crucial thing just to put a 3350mAh battery... I can trade a 350mAh capacity for a 3.5mm jack port.

Anonymous, 05 May 2017why do oem's hate 3.5mm jack?Greed.
It's one dollarcent less on bill of materials multiplied by millions of devices at the same or higher price of the previous model.
The only way to stop this ridiculous trend is to vote with our wallets.

Stop complaining people, and accept it.
Jack is dead, and should be removed.
Samsung the only coward, they dare not remove it this year. But i guess its going next year.
Stock up on usbc now, kill and burn all your 3.5mm crap!

Neither HTC nor LeEco offered this excuse when they eliminated the 3.5mm jack. If this is true, why would they have kept silent and why didn’t they use the extra space to substantially increase their battery capacity? In fact, Le Eco was on record as saying that they did not save any space. Android manufacturers seem to have to resort to all kinds of gobbledygook in order to justify their desire to ape Apple. It’s hard to know why Xiaomi has fallen into this trap.

There is almost no space saving by eliminating the 3.5mm jack. It's impossible that there is such a big increase in battery size from this move. There are lots of phones with the jack and either similar or bigger batteries. Just put in a better quality one with higher energy density. Bad move Xiaomi.

Eh, firstly, the headphone jack port is tiny. Secondly, I'd take a headphone jack over a marginally larger battery any day.

Was on my purchase list since I have an aging Mi3 (which I loved a lot), but this is a no go for me, since I use it as my primary navigation device in my car and also a music source while under charging. Time to look forward to another flagship. :(

Whats their excuse for a mediocre camera for fifth flagship in a row????
Xiaomi has tried every thing, i mean literally everything in camera d3partment....
Mi5 with conventional camera (Op3 did tons better widsame sensor)
Mi5s with bigger pixels (pixel rocked)
Mi5s plus dual cam, rgb+monochrome (huawei p series)
Mi note 2 and mi mix with higher resolution (xperia line up)
Now mi6 with telephoto lens. (Hate to say it but i7 plus)
Every other manufacturer with a similar setup does a much better job while all xiaomi does is make attractive built quality.....
Xiaomi and der half-baked devices...........!!!!!!

They could have fitted at least 3300 mah battery if they kept the audio jack and 50 mah wouldn't make any difference. Huawei fitted 3200 mah battery inside the 7mm thick P10 and Mi6 is thicker.

I absolutely despise such replies. "Sorry, we couldn't accomodate the 3.5mm headphone jack because of the larger battery / slim design / internal components". It's like designing a car without headlights because they wanted space for a bigger engine.
Why don't OEM's realize that the 3.5mm jack is a widely-used and mostly hassle-free port that does it's job just fine. Using BT / Airpods (cable-less) audio may be okay, but at the end of the day you still need to charge using, you guessed it, another cable.
The easy conventional way of listening is through wired earphones & the easy conventional way of charging is through wired cables and with this single port, you can't even do a basic thing such as charge & listen at the same time.

Really? They should have asked OnePlus for their battery increasing Magic-spell! Like they did in 3T being the exact same size and weight as 3.

AnonD-115822, 05 May 2017So what ... there are adaptors out there if you really need em You clearly don't know how technology works. It's not a matter of having an adaptor or not. This also impacts audio quality.
