Anonymous, 13 May 2017That happens because Apple cheaps out and doesnt include a ... moreI think my brother's gold iPhone 6s from AT&T came with a screen protector. Some phones will have it already applied out of the box. My G5, V20, and Pixel have it but my S7 edge didn't because it is curved.

Expect more GLASS BACKS from iPhones. I think the iPhone 6s and SE with metal backs and headphone jack are the only iPhones I would be interested in getting. The iPhone 8 or whatever will likely go glass back along with the successor to the SE to keep things uniformed.

Last to have metal back and headphone jack -
iPhone 6s/6s Plus (2015)
iPhone SE (2016/early 2017)

I would get an iPhone because I do like the hardware especially the internal audio quality. But I despise iOS for being far less versatile than Android. Same boring UI. Can't even delete a photo album on the iPhone without syncing it to iTunes first.

No, thanks. Been there, done that with iPods and iPhones years ago. Wanting an Xperia phone next after getting a PS4 slim and PS Vita slim during the past week. Remote Play is pretty cool. I just hate $ony's price gouging. $130 for a 64gb Vita memory card? FU, $Ony phoney baloney! As greedy as Apple.

Apple lost with innovation. Now just invest on other companies to do most of the dirty work.

We really do need some huge leap in glass tech if companies continue to use glass backs and of course the screen, maybe some new perspex or something. I am one of those who enjoy the phone I bought naked not have to put it in case etc. Same with battery it is 2017 and we should be able to enjoy all features of smartphone with screen on full brightness but we can't .If I have to bring a power brick of power bank I am back to a 2 box solution something that should have gone years ago.

Sorry to go on but cpu/gpu increase every year when really it is overkill but fragility and battery life that everyone craves is not being pushed.

IMO sapphire is good to be put in some parts of the phone, such as a fingerprint scanner and a camera lens. It is very expensive and Apple is a company that is very wise and careful when thinking about the profit.

Anonymous, 13 May 2017Corning Gorilla glass is a gimmick. Falsely and overrated ...Strange postulate...

You ARE aware that there are (currently) no known transparent material that are hard without being brittle?

It is a trade off. The more scratch resistant the surface the easier it will break. And the other way round, the more elastic a material is the easier it is to scratch.... No free diners in the universe.

Gorilla Glass gives us a compromise between the two.

Of course you could make a very thick layer of a hard material with very rounded edges and corners, but that have other negative impact on weight, size.and bezels
