11 April, 2011
After a long and dramatic series of rumors, and only two days before Nokia's event in London, a promotional video of Nokia X7 for Three UK surfaced in YouTube, and brought a great deal of excitement to us...

[deleted post]"wow terrible Nokia! As usual... the X7 will probably come with a 2 year old CPU and they'll lie to your face about how modern and amazing it is... typical Nokia."

Actually nokia does have plans to use a higher level processor but they are currently waiting for the next-gen batteries to roll in first. For now arm11 is sufficient for symbian^3 IMHO.

"Nokia fails at all of that! The most basic(yet one of the most important) requirement for a touch phone, a good keyboard is TERRIBLE on a Nokia. Browser? Terrible, Email? Terrible! To sync with Google calendar you have to setup the whole exchange account and it does not work well either."

Agreed. Nokia really needs to buck up in those aspects.

"FM Transmitter - Who cares? Nobody serious about music will use an FM transmitter, 3.5mm Aux-In port is what they'll use, and all the latest cars come with iPod dock connectors."

what about those cars without an aux-in port? and not everyone has (or wants) an ipod/iphone you know.

"HDMI - Rarely ever used by most people, do you carry an HDMI cable around with you? Probably not. Majority of people do use HDMI connection."

Well duh, or course you dont carry around your HDMI cable. But this is extremely useful for home media or if you want you want to show off your media at you friends/relatives house. And i doubt that most people who own an N8/E7 do not have a HD tv.

"USB on the Go - Again, practically useless... how often to people use that? Not often I bet."

What? You serious? This is one of the far most useful features of symbian^3 phones. I use it on a daily basis for work purposes.

"Besides, if you still want those features, Galaxy S II already has HDMI and USB on the Go support. iPhone 4 supports HDMI."

U just said that HDMI and USB-OTG was useless, way to contradict yourself there. And i doubt the quality provided by the 50USD converter that the iphone4 uses can be even compared to the propriety HDMI port of the N8/E7

The fact that the UI, icons, and even the fonts gets a major overhaul screams how the user experience of S^3 devices sucks. Too bad, these changes won't do anything to turn the tide. Symbian is a dying OS and people are moving on to better platforms like Android and iOS.

I bought Nokia E7 again, back to Nokia. A big relief. E7 is a true working horse, not plastic gadget. Long battery, great call quality. Less snappy then my previous galaxy S and less Apps, but Nokia is definetely on its way back. I would not be surprised if Symbian gets a new life after all.

Cellularcd, 11 Apr 2011and what happened to the alliance with the Windows Phone OS... moreThe devices with windows will not start rolling out till July 2011 at the earliest. They will then begin to faze out the Symbian devices through to 2015 where at this time the will be minimal Symbian handsets in circulation. Inside sources ;-)

[deleted post]I have both android desire hd an n8 and while the n8 has a few advantages, mainly the camera its pales big time in comparison, Usb on the go.....? ive used it once and its a waste of money to be honest, dolby digital through hdmi minor difference when heard. To be honest side by side, the symbian ui is poor, menus a bit disjointed, drab and dated in design. The browser is terrible in comparison to androids to be honest, facebook app cannot 'display' have the stuff some people have uploaded. Games are definitely a substantial step behind,ie i have same game on both and the level of detail and speed are substantially lower on the n8.

I mainly use the n8 for calls and texts, email can have its problems, for anything else its a big big step behind.

AnonD-5683, 11 Apr 2011hay kid, click below and see who is winning (overall spec) ... moreI had the choice to buy a galaxy S or a N8, finally after doing some research and thinking about my specific needs, I opted for the N8, and I'm really happy about my choice!
Some departments were N8 wins over SGS are (aside camera): usb on the go, HDMI port, fm transmitter, over all built quality, and what was most important for me: offline gps.

As I travel a lot I don't have a contract and I don't browse from my phone, I use my phone basically for taking pics, recording videos, listening to music, games, and GPS (besides calling and sms). So far N8 has been an awesome device (no hangs or lags), but I agree that if I used my phone to browse internet, or if I were in a data free plan Android is probably the best choice!
By the way, I bought my phone in Switzerland and at that time SGS was more expensive than N8, now they are about the same price (the 8g SGS).

[deleted post]At this moment Nokia handsets do not command premium they used to and they offer decent performance. Aside of CPU power quite competitive phones with the new update. Many people may choose Nokia phones as the result, preferring to keep $150 bucks rather than having dual core CPU.
Some of the features in Nokia phones exceed those of the competition.
So it is the balancing act which people will do. The same as with computers where only few people want to pay premium for top CPU. Later this year Nokia will be likely on dual core CPU bandwagon well.

S^3 handsets are only about 6 months since release. It would be actually to Nokia's advantage to ensure thriving united (non-fragmented) ecosystem.

I'm not a fan of any kind but this is to little to late and it's not even close. I've jumped on android vagon because it's to easy. Like Gordon Ramsay says done and done. I had symbian before and than it died. It's over long time ago
