Google announces Android Go for devices with 1GB of RAM or less

17 May 2017
You can call it Android One 2.0, perhaps, though it may be somewhat different.

Thumbs down to Android on this. Apple has consistent and uniform OS supported in all of its products whether high-end or not, new or old.

There's still a lot of 1GB and 2GB ram phones outside your world. A world bigger than yours.

I disagree with this move. Instead of making a weaker version of Android that makes it complicating and limited, instead, they should've focused on streamlining android OS to work on all devices even those with low specs. Tv boxes run on low specs and have Android installed so..

To me this is the equivalent of Windows RT which failed badly

Also I personally would've been more interested to see them finally converging android & chrome OS into one powerful OS that can be used on all devices be it mobile or desktop (Remax OS anyone??)

ssbatman21, 18 May 20171 GB ram....???? Is that still a thing....????It *can* again become a thing, if this concept works. This may help manufacturers reducing the price of smartphones to under USD 50, so it is a good thing.

I still see so many people in my country with basic phones as they cannot afford a smartphone.

This is google we are talking about, which touches a whole lot of people on the planet in important ways, and intends to continue to do so.

Thats great for Android. I mean, it will be like rebooting the Android revolution after a decade with starting as low as with 512 MB RAM. It will be so good for the coming years reducing the hunger of power hungry phones. If we see, why do we need phones with 4 or 6 GB RAM when the operations we need, runs blazing fast. Its all just a developed pressure by OEMS to deliberately increase power when a normal mobile user does not need it.

But if you are getting 3T in much cheaper price then you should inverst your hard eraned money in 3T. As its best value for money smartphone and you would love it if you like rooting and flashing roms. You can easily use it for at least next 3 years.

My device has tiny 512 MB RAM..

System apps take 300+ MB RAM..

                                  No Google play store ....

Google chrome required 100MB RAM ...

So Android useless in tiny RAM.
