For those with lots of money, the intel route is still best.

Arengium, 30 May 2017Is this true? I'm a engineering student and I wanna know mo... moreLong story short, overclockable Ryzens with 6-8 cores with Multithreading are worth it. As a student, you should invest in them since the best model is 500$ (If I'm not mistaken) and compares to the i7-6950X (Broadwell-E)

I still hate AMD, but have to say Intel is too late too expensive to pass AMD after AMD announced Ryzen.

Well, I was hoping that AMD will take a lead in CPUs, but Intel again put them down for good.
PC's are on the decline, however, gaming and high-performance PCs are going up.

Don't take me wrong - AMD CPUs are good for their price, but Intel is about performance also by buying better CPUs you don't need to upgrade them longer. I have over 20 years of experience in IT and when it comes to performance I order for clients Intel (and usually NVIDIA), when it comes to saving money and making things very cheap - AMD is the king.

DOA. This junk gets destroyed in threaded performance by Ryzen Threaripper, not to mention performance to price ratios. The R7 1800X already gives the 6950X a good kicking depending on the work-sets despite having 2 less cores and 4 less threads. The extra cores and threads for Intel are a desperate measure to try and counter Ryzen's extremely high yielding SMT implementation. At 16 core and 32Threads the 18 core 36 thread Intel chip needs to start saying it's prayers.

That's not the worst of it, the flagship Threadripper will be a good deal more affordable than the 2K overpriced pos Intel's peddling.

For those who have more money than sense for a home PC, there will be a 60 TB SSD available at a cost of £10,000 later this year from Seagate.

AnonD-523334, 30 May 2017So the ryzen hardwork gonna in vain. Not necessarily, AMD can easily put Intel in a weird spot...with these prices they are both burning the recent i7 adopters, and encroaching into their own Xeon territory for server and workstations.

If threadripper is priced right, Intel will need to restructure pricing...and in the end, the consumer will win, regardless

Whatever, a little off topic, but I believe that Intel has one of the most misleading product naming system in the world.

Won't some of the top end I9's encroach on the Xeon server CPU's? Especially as some of the clock speeds are higher and unlike Xeon's they can be overclocked. They also seem more price friendly too. Having said that I can see very few people needing 16 or 18 core CPU's for a desktop or even a professional workstation come to that.
