I agree that is a good thing to make popular a great feature like this, but it's just a shame that a big company like Apple had to make it this way. Trying to make everyone think that they were the first guys to ever come up with this idea, when there are many proofs that they were'nt. Why do they do this? How are they so sure that their target audience is dumb enough to never find out?

And, on the other hand, it's also a shame that no other big company saw the potential in this, well, Sharp did, but they are not as big or influential as Apple. I refuse to believe that LG or Samsung or any other display-maker company never saw that, it's impossible, there has to be something else going on here.

Double the frame rate, half the battery life...

AnonD-39937, 06 Jun 2017I'm not a fan of Apple devices, but the 120Hz refresh rate ... moreI agree too and o hope this gets rid of the few occsional lags and glitches and it could help mid-range to low-end devices and also it would be awesome on the note 8!

Sharp has made a phone with 120Hz display in the past as some have already mentioned.
The recently announced Sharp Aquos R also has a 120Hz IGZO display:

Clearly Apple isn't the first as is passionately claimed by the author. If the author was someone else, I think he wouldn't have said this especially considering the above article is from April, hardly two months back.

              AnonD-657131, 06 Jun 2017Useless company...then , what ur company do ?

android already did that 10 years ago .... lol

Apple actually bring a genuinely game changing technology to the main stream and the Fandroids can't cope.

.alpha, 06 Jun 2017iPhone was also the first to get 60fps UI and that's why it... moreNope, it was much earlier on Android 4.1 - see "project butter". Not all phones were supporting it, but the ones of significance did support it and the UI felt smooth and fast at the same time. Well, at least on a Nexus 4.
                      That's 2012/2013 era innovation.

I'm not a fan of Apple devices, but the 120Hz refresh rate is a great new feature of the new iPad Pro line and hope the Android realm will also implement it.

Thanks for setting this industry standard, Apple. Now I'll wait until Android OEMs adapt it :)

The main disadvantage with 120hz is that once you get used to the frame rate you realize that good old 60fps now resembles a reasonably paced power point presentation.

iPhone was also the first to get 60fps UI and that's why it always feel smooth. I think Android 6 Marshmallow is the first Android to support 60fps UI.

120Hz refresh rate is more gimmick, than real innovation. Why? Even on 12" display, with limitation of mobile OS like iOS, or Andriod, it is more like 4K display on 5" phone. Can you see the difference between 800 and 400 ppi? No. Same is refresh rate.
And also to the author of the article: There were no displays in any kind in 19th century.

"And now the new iPads are the first mobile devices on the market to have high refresh rate displays."

Sorry, the SHARP Aquos (Aquos Compact SH-02H in particular case) phones with IGZO displays were running on 120hz back in 2015. So, Apple is far from first.

Heck, there is even an article about the phone on GSMarena which talks about it "DoCoMo's Sharp Aquos Compact, Aquos Zeta have super slim bezels".
