            This meana that less than 11% of all Android phones sold were made this year or last year.

            And companies keep making them.

              if people were to buy a new phone and throw the old one then it shouldn't affect the current figures, which only relate to this month's worth of data.

                    HTC One M7 probably still on KitKat too. My LG G3 Beat released in 2014 is still on KK.

                    I do like Marshmallow. I kept my G5 on it and stable. Only the G5's image retention bothers me. Three of my phones are on Nougat. My S7e and V20 still doesn't have 7.1. My Pixel does at 7.1.2. Part of the less than 1%. Very smooth experience if on stock Android.

                      I wonder which devices contribute to the KitKat market share. I guess some goes to the SIII and S4 (some carriers didn't allowed the upgrade to Lollipop) along with the thousand cheap Galaxies sold with 4.4.
