KamAbdi, 25 Jul 2017Cool but Sony had OLED before and actually they're the ones... moreCorrection: Sony didn't cancel the STE OLED because they were working with Panasonic.
Honestly I don't know why they did because it seemed beautiful display.

It does not use white fil... moreCool but Sony had OLED before and actually they're the ones who pioneered the OLED technology but dropped the whole thing. Right now, and since Sony is a co-owner of JDI, I think they'll wait for JOLED because JDI is the one who makes their IPS LCD.
BTW, you know that Sony is doing CLEDIS which far far greater than OLED itself.
Actually, I was reading about the STE OLED and it got cancelled because they were doing it with Panasonic and Sony showed off a 56' OLED panel in CES 2013 and so does Panasonic

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2017Sony is co-owner of Japan Display. They have own lcd scree... moreYou said what must be the most important thing : "Apple will be rookie on this".
People criticize Amoled screens for anything. Samsung is making them since at least 2008 for their phones (i have owned Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra back in time) and experience is speaking from itself in this domain.
Apple may well be the richest company out there, but they will be at year 1 at producing them with no visibility on their reliability (guess that people won't care). But since it's only rumors, Apple may rethink their strategy and not put those screens right away on their own products.

It will be called RETINA HD+ 1080p oled screen and fanboys praise it. Its better than 2k oled from Samsung whose had put in billions in R&D for the last 15 yrs. I bet Apple will infringe one or two patents from oled tech just like they did with modem patents against Nokia and Qualcomm. But no problem, fanboys claim Apple already patented in 2017 lol.

So we hope Sony makes her OLED entrance next year.
BTW, JOLED's OLED is different from LG's and Samsung's OLED but the OLEDs we know has deeper blacks, but, JOLED has WRGB meaning deeper whites which makes the picture 10 times better than the normal OLEDs

I see it as a good thing as finally Apple will show these other companies how to correctly calibrate AMOLED. (Not that others don't know how, just that they refuse to.)
