I did not have to make any research, develop new tech, pay royalties for patents.
You do not have any employees, no machines that use power and need management , sometimes machines need to be fixed or replaced.
You did not pay for you phone to be taken to stores, no advertisement.
Even without all that , phone costed to you 400,00.
This is why cheape chinese brands lose money yearly

-most energy efficient 1080p display with no issues about lack of sharpness
-better battery management (3K Sony battery beats 5K Samsung battery)
-better heat management (name another phone that can record 4K videos for unlimited time)
-better software and optimization (definitely)
-better updates and support (this phone will be the first to run Android 8.0 out of the box)
-best audio capability (where do you find dual front facing stereo speakers and LDAC on similarly priced phones)
-best fingerprint scanner location (laying down on the table or upside down, placement when unlocking it will always be more convenient)
-always has unique design (not a copycat of anything)
-have consistent performance throughout the years (Xperia Z2 devices from 2014 are still in perfect condition even today)
-no unnecessary gimmicks or so
And if no one would still be interested of picking one, Idk wtf will be the problem with people like you anymore.

You probably criticized Sony for using 4K HDR on smartphone, as it is overkill for smartphones, yet you're bashing again for using a more energy efficient 1080p display, given content creators only produce contents in 4K and 1080p and not even 2K.
How about be satisfied of what you can just get today?
Premium is about practicality, not numbers, and I wish you have known that already.

S8 and U 11 are only single shooter yet they beat pretty much every dual cameras right now.
The only dual camera that I surely love is from Huawei.

It is not that simple!
It is undeniable that every company is profit oriented but during the process of manufacturing it is more complex, there are several phases
1. Pre Production
- Doing RnD to bring something new to the market not just slaping what is available (it costs a lot and remember there are lots of workers to be paid and given salary. It is completely different from individual works that just tear it down and re-install the components)
- the RnD isn't merely the hardware but the software either (it might cost more than hardware)
- Paying lisences and Royalties for the patents they using from other companies
- Buying components
2. During Production
- Manufacturing process, yes there are still many workers need to be given salary note that the machines need maintenance too
3. After Production
- Shipping Cost
- Marketing Advertisement
- Giving CSR to societies/country
All in all it costs a lot to manufacture not only Sony but all! $600-700 is decent price for flagship
