You probably critici... moreYou're right I think 4K res on a 5.5" is just overkill, but I heard that the screen would only go 4K when watching 4 K videos, while daily tasks are done in 1080p, right?
Also it may sound selfish, but I wish Sony would provide us with choices to go between 4K-2K-1080p, just like what Samsung did with the S8... Or is that even possible?

But it's just unfortunate that 'the majority of people' choose the iPhone 7 Plus-like optical zoom and not so useful bokeh effect.
I like the wide-angle cam approach by LG 'cause it's more versatile, comes in handy while traveling

also think of how you can literally buy a whole PC for the same price as a smartphone. Tell me how something both lasts longer than your phone and takes more to make is the same price as something tiny and cheap to make? Why buy latest flagship when you get a gaming PC for that same price?
it's incredibly overhyped apple and other manufacturers continue to price hike while people like you buy into that hype.

First, Mobile/Xperia and Console/PS are both differ in division, both have different systems. There is an urge to heavily spend and invest money on RnD for mobile division because it takes them more than twice a year to release smartphones but not the consoles. It means the mobile division also need more resources to fund.
Second, Manufacturing Cost.
You claimed that you're already in development of your own smartphone, it cost you 400USD for the simplest phone assembling without things I and another already mentioned on previous reply but don't you know it is already wide spread globally on internet that it takes only 381 USD for Sony to manufacture a PS4 and Sony sells it 399 USD, it means they get just 18 USD/console do you think you can paid your more-than-hundred employees for years with that profits even if you sell hundred million consoles? No! If you don't believe it what don't you have incentive to tear your PS4 ,re-assemble and calculate it just like you do to your Xperia? Note that something bigger doesn't always mean more expensive to build or produce, it sometimes depends on what market it is targeting.
Third, Sales
Mobile division sells hardware and software in the form of unity so it's one and only source to get profit to sustain, of course selling a unity device is more expensive (just like selling computer, almost half the price is for the software installed), you'll even get FREE software supports and updates meanwhile the console division sells only the hardware and earn more profit by lisensing their games to publisher. In short you just buy the console yet still you need to pay/buy more for new games you want to play. It cost more, right?
E.g
Buy a flagship for 700 USD with 2-3 years software support, it saves you approximately 1400-2100 USD before buying a new phone THEN you buy a PS4 for 400 USD that is impossible for you to play just a game in 3 years or at least until the PS5 released. Says 30 USD for a PS4 game, you buy 10, equal to 300USD. At the end it cost the same but buying phone saves you up to 2000USD.
Fourth, The usability.
A phone has become a mini computer that helps your productivity, your works, has replace many things like camera, music player, notes, alarm, and much more, the consoles do not but entertainment. Yes you can follow any tournament and win the prizes but which helps more your productivities?
Man, buying a phone means you pay for the practical idea and usability in an almost complete package of products that helps you and anyone related to this business.It's not only who can sell it cheaper but it is business companies are running.
After all it's you who decide which phone to buy but please be real, PEACE :-)

the z2 and the z3 were ahead of its time becuase it provided looks, materials, and combination of features that no other competitor had or even struggled to come close. Ip68, front facing speakers, aluminium and glass body, 20.7mp camera, great audio, microsd card etc
but Sony has literally just slept on that model ever since and hasn't changed anything. I guess maybe you can defend sony as in what is there really more to do with a smartphone. But for starters reduce bezels or make new design, make louder headphone jack and better camera software.

Sony and samsung are two biggest companies that manufacture sensors and displays on their own while others just buy from other companies.
but you still didn't explain to me how a ps4 is cheaper than a smartphone while requiring more materials to make. i can get 2 ps4 for the price of one flagship

please stop making excuses for companies to rip us off when something like the ps4 has a higher production cost yet is cheaper.

remember to have a nice handfree included and all the stuff i can get so I wont have to pay 450$ to a website its displayed with the name XPERIA XZ
and you just need to do one good thing for the customer

plz go check why people buy apple. there hardware is much cheaper but their software alone is worth 500$ for them , you just made a phone of yourself of last year specs for 400$ , xz is for 400$ with warranty, and many things you are don't have to run a company

but it bashes on your face the moment you see xz premium beating 8gb model on most apps opening and working with half ram, far better screen (4K HDR !!!!!!!!)
so my point is you are unaware of one thing which is software optimisation and I would (and every knowledgeable person ) will be glad to know that specs are just paper work, otherwise apple is not even worth 300$
its been almost 3 decades sony started making softwares (before ps1) and still the best non google optimised phone on the market
but you wont know it unless you buy it or even use it for a day

REMEMBER: There is no right phone for everyone, just one that suits either your tastes, needs, budgets, or any combination of those.
Anyone who forces you to buy something that does not meet any of those goals you set is an id1ot. There is still freedom of choice in this world - use it for yourself.

For people having a meltdown about the price, it'll get cheaper by about €100 after a month or so, full price preorders will get bonus headphones, no worse value than the other aaa brands and better than apple.
This will only have to compete with the xzp in performance, dual pixel autofocus should improve low light fuzziness (not saying ois wouldn't help).
And no-one will be confused with the naming scheme in a year when it's the x2 lineup, not that anyone who doesn't know phones buys xperias.
