Me, buy an S8+? Nope. Has no S Pen - I sketch and design for architecture. I project demonstrate how to draw with my Galaxy Note to my students. I explain designs with drawing on-screen TV. I analyze environments by drawing. I sometimes think with my Galaxy Note using the S Pen to jot and draw to dismantle problems and think of solutions with OneNote that syncs with all my devices.

I'm that guy who sometimes do fine digital portraits using Sketchbook app on my Galaxy Note.

All I'm saying is the Note series should be the most practical (more and detachable battery)and powerful (a big jump in performance). Not merely an S series unit with a digitizer pen.

AnonD-124110, 04 Aug 2017I don't get all this battery fuss. I do most of my work (in... moreIt's counter-intuitive to be carrying around and plugging in half the time you are using the thin phone. My experience with the Note7 has me needing to charge before going home. It means I expending the battery cycle count by TWICE.

For those not in the know, the 300 or less charge cycle counts is the usual effective charge hold for a battery. Beyond that, the battery is about 60% capacity from the original. The percentage count/indicator will only indicate the CURRENT capacity, i.e. NOT the original (say) 3500 mAh when you first bought the phone but the DEGRADED level of the battery (months later), i.e. the battery will actually only hold some (say) 2800 mAh - which is what "100%" is now, NOT the full 3500 mAh capacity.

The MAJORITY of consumers like you are not knowledgeable or do not care for this fact. The over charge or over discharge, rapid charge, wireless charge - just accelerates the eventual degradation of the battery power issues.

That's just I just opted to put in a 10,000 mAh extended battery - less number of times of charging, no need to fast charge during the day, and no under charging. Based on all the batteries I have used, 18 months is the average before I start seeing apparent performance. Performance is only top during the first month, but after that, expect a 10-20% decrease battery capacity.

So sealed battery just puts the buyer at a disadvantage in the long run. Samsung knows this.

The Note series has always been a phablet sized S series, with the magic of the unique, genuine Wacom pen. The only generation they looked different was the year with the S5 and Note 4. That was because Samsung transitioned from plastic to metal during that year. The Galaxy Alpha was the metal version of the S5, and it looked extremely much like a small version of the Note 4.

The Note 8 will be a massive seller. For instance in Europe there's an unintended bottled up market since the Note 4. For instance, I'm reluctantly sitting with a GS7 waiting for the next real big thing.

Note series is flop and losing confidence, initially from the pen issue in Note 5 and Battery blast issue in Note 7 i think it is best to buy Galaxy series like S8 as it is ideal in size and performance and look and also its infinity display camera and overall features are almost perfect with smooth flawless performance as well.

I don't get all this battery fuss. I do most of my work (including spreadsheets and presentations) on my phone, and have nothing to complain about battery. Specially with wireless fast charging. I would rather have a sealed back 1000x times.

I can't loose the microSD card slot though. As I'm a designer, i change it a lot for different content though.

If the s-pen performs with light preassure near of what the ipad pro does, I will hapilly come back to the note series, and laugh on the battery haters faces.

                      "Emperor Edition" :-)
It's really tempting but I'm not a fan of the aspect ratio (seems too long) though I might get used to it. I recently purchased the fantastic Sony XZP and absolutely love it. I've always been a Galaxy Note fan so who knows, I may have to get one of these too (probably not the Emperor Edition ;)).

River rafter, 04 Aug 2017I hope this one explodes too. Samsung needs to stop making ... moreI would agree with you. I'm looking into the possibility of just getting a new Microsoft Surface Pro or iPad Pro with Pencil. I still use my Note 3 with extended battery anyway.

This is even more so if the Note8 battery performance will subpar and no 128 GB variant is not available on my region.

I guess Samsung isn't thinking what the Galaxy Note stands for its Note users. They can totally differentiate the S series as for those wanting glam glass back with sealed battery.

The Note series should mean a bigger modular battery (directly powering), with a hard back and highest performance. It's suppose to be a good functional tool, not something as status.

Now both S and Note series are just the same iterations, with just the S Pen as a difference. Even the S series has a bigger battery.

Small battery, curved screen, slow OS roll outs. No thank you not worth my hard earned money, I dont like being tethered to the wall might as well use a desktop if your going to be tethered to a wall like that.

Sigh. This is obviously Samsung wants. There are probably advanced Note8 for reviewers already out, and some decided to leak. I doubt the 256 GB variant will be on regular markets. I would settle for the 128 GB, please.

Not a good idea to just put out only the 64 GB version, and limit the 128 and 256 GB ones in a few region. It's like Note5 all over again - 64 GB version limited on certain markets.

That was the main thing that really stopped me from ever getting a Note5... Other than the sealed battery, fragile glass back and no memory expansion slot. Samsung lost me and others as Galaxy Note customers in 2015-2016.

I wifi download music and video before going out for better quality and reduced LTE data consumption, and I'd like to ditch the micro SD for a more secure storage with no lags in accessing my media. I currently use a 128 GB microSD, and I find myself filling out up to 90%.

Looks like I'm not selling for just a 64 GB internal memory.

I don't see why so many people reason the smaller batteries because of what happened with the Note 7. People seem to forget that the S7 Edge launched with a bigger battery than the Note 7 and that phone had no problems.

But never mind, let's just accept smaller batteries :)

I hope this one explodes too. Samsung needs to stop making shitty note phones to continue the lineup. The battery capacity is a joke. Samsung needs to know that their new strategy of making inferior hardware phones backed up by extensive software optimizations must stop. Making us pay more for glass and thinness! Who needs a phone that is so thin that it can't house a good enough battery? This is a disgrace. The persistent location for the fingerprint reader itself is an example of how samsung doesn't care about customers or itself. Who on Earth would carry a flaw forward onto a next gen device? This is perhaps the only great flaw of the s8. And they carry it over to the note! Pathetic! Now how am i gonna find a good phone with a stylus?
