simple user, 18 May 2011apparently N9 droped Meego for symbian.. and i remember Nok... moreMeeGo for phones is not supposed to be Linux in the same sense as Linux distributions for PC. MeeGo runs native binaries for third party applications, which makes it potentially much more powerful than Android, but otherwise the phone UI version is optimized for phone use. It means that you should be able to do everything as well without a physical keyboard as you would on an Android device.

[deleted post]How come. You cant see 2010 or 2011 phones with 12mp AF and excellent hardware from other big manufacturers. N9 will surely be a hit. It has 12 MP AF, full QWERTY keyboard, solid aluminum unibody casing, pentaband same with n8, 64 gb if true, wvga or more resolution, 1ghz+, NFC and more. You gotta watch out!

"""The OFFICIAL SPECS of the N9 are as follows : 800x480 AMOLED CBD display, with Gorilla Glass and an olephobic coating, St Ericsson U8500 that uses ARM Cortex A9 dual core CPU+Mali 400 GPU, 1GB RAM+1GB Virtual RAM,12mp AF camera, FULL HD video recording, Full connectivity including NFC, 32GB internal memory, and all the Nokia Basics...My friend has 'contacts' at Nokia, and these were just some of the specs he E- mailed me...BUT he said it was the 2010 specs, so it 'might' improve, so I'm hoping the screen res will increase! BUT he told me that about the X7, and the specs actually went down! The X7 was supposed to have a 1ghz A8 processor (the entire Symbian 3 family were orginally intented to have use these), AF and Xenon, and much more, but designers were unable to fit all that in an 'efficient' way...Please I hope the N9 stays on top!"""

It would be really foolish to believe on such rumour but let's hope it turns out to be true !!!

Aside from engadget, you can also verify at talk.maemo.org
they also had a member there who claimed that he was able to hold it in the wild (real life) for 2 minutes.
He mistook it for a Nokia E7.

Anonymous, 18 May 2011how u ppl can say meego will b best.....let it come n watch... morebecause Meego is the right way for Linux to enter the mobile market.. Android was Google platform to promote "G-" services to people. Although a bit better than Apple's it is still quite restricitve. not to mention recently found seurity hole in Android.

I don't think it's symbian! Look at the resolution of the screen, definitely not nHD. And the on-screen keyboard is different, 4 icons in a row, tile view of open apps (probably) and 'fast' (which S^3 isn't). And even have a look at the battery bar, and other status icons on the top bar, their positions are completely different.

I was waiting so long for the Galaxy S2, i think I might wait AGAIN for this beast!
N.B there are alot of different versions and specs of the N9, It will be very interesing to see which one they choose! and it runs MEEGO! NOT ANNA!

AnonD-171, 18 May 2011bro they are doing it right now...it's Qt they are using to... moreIf it is Qt then the apps should be available for S^3 as well. However I do not see the apps I would want in Ovi Store. Android market has what I need though and a few options to choose from.
