HTC reports declining revenue in July

07 August 2017
In June, it seemed that the company bounced back, but that didn't last.

That is a one noisy photo, given that it's supposed to be a sensor with large pixel wells.
Downscale everything to 3mp and you can clearly see how a Note 3 and an iphone 5s, both devices are from the same year, outperform the HTC One M7 hands down. It's not even a competition....

Kriegsherr, 08 Aug 2017Either you people don't understand what a good camera means... moreShould get your eyes checked and stop touting your photography background. I've done multiple pro video gigs, but you don't see me screaming that out loud. I'm sure there are quite a few professional photographers and videographers around here as well.

How's this for a great quality camera? Yes, this is HTC One 4mp sensor, which was present in M7 and M8. And this issue was widespread. HTC did a ton of in-warranty repairs, only for this to come back a few months later.

I totally agree. I even bought the HTC U11 only to have to return it days later. Its an excellent device but after a while you realize that although you gained an excellent camera and speakers, you also get thick bezels, LCD screen, and a UI that's just dull and boring. Not to mention the lack of a 3.5mm Jack. Instead of eliminating features they should keep them. Whatever happened to the IR blaster? I use to use them on Smartphones before and yet from one year to the next they eliminated them. What happened to the metal designed? Now they gave us fragile glass and didn't even bother to include wireless charging while at it.

On the Plus. HTC did bring back quality/loud Speakers unlike the weaker ones found on the HTC 10. They finally gave us a proper Camera to use (Always hated that they failed in this area) and they gave us Waterproofing. Hopefully HTC listens to their customers in the USA because I am lost at what group of population they use in their studies to come to the conclusion that "We, at HTC, listen to U".

Over the years I had all the sympathy for HTC, but now I have none (outside of their Vive department, at least). It feels like they are consciously doing everything in their power not to sell any phones. I don't know if it's management, focus groups that their hire or something else, but they are doing really literally everything with their phones not to sell.

Huge bezels? Check. Removing headphone jack where every other Android manufacturer has it and it's big enough of a negative differentiator to buy any other phone just because of this? check. Hideous design language? Check. Outdated UI and software design? Check.

Really, what are they thinking? It beats me why they are still making phones if they're really not only not trying to compete with literally anyone else, but also consciously deciding to make their phones as unappealing as possible.

Kriegsherr, 08 Aug 2017Either you people don't understand what a good camera means... moreM8's problem was mostly too blurry pictures. I even tried to use my wife's tripod to make the phone make good pictures, but the details were still blurry - color-wise good, but holy sh*t if you happened to view the pictures on a bigger screen or print them - not good, but okay enough to view on that 5" screen it had. I'm glad I got rid of the phone, I was much happier with my Nexus 6's camera. M8's only really good, even perfect, thing was the flawless audio reproduction with headphones, that's the only thing I miss about the phone for. Some people just won't accept they bought a mediocre phone which was ridiculously overpriced for what it actually offered.

This is very hard to believe, or then you just doesn't have eye for photography.

HTC M8 photos are very bad, mostly just unnatural looking photos where colours are way off. HTC is knows for bad camera, nowdays their cam is not bad anymore.

Shame HTC is not doing so well but little sympathy for a company that has lost its way and seems obsessed with pushing gimmicks that nobody wants instead of usable high end phones which customers do.

They could have cleaned up with a proper flagship mini but no, their big idea was ... wait for it ... a phone you can squeeze. WTF.

I am not happy with this and also you should not too.

If one competitor out of business the prices could rise up, the innovation race slowing down, less devices on market so maybe you will not find your best. Maybe not the HTC, but if anyone make a big leap the others will copy and makes more option for the customers to choose.
See no 3.5mm jack. 2K or even 4K displays, water resistant devices, Modularity etc.
The HTC devices basically very good, beside the small battery for example the HTC 10 is one of the best of last year with good battery, but the company strugles to sell and make money of it.

I think they put the prices too high, or at least the department of promotion not highlight the premium like features why listed the device that price tag.
The every day customer not want a 700$ or 800$ device ... except the Apple fans.

My wife bought a htc M8 and this is one of best camera i have used on a smartphone. I was surprised to see that it was taking pictures as good or sometimes better than my iPhone. Megapixel count doesn't speak for the quality of the camera rather light sensitivity, color reproduction etc. are the aspects you should look for when you think about the quality of the camera.
