Weekly poll results: AMOLED runs laps around LCD

13 August 2017
Despite the usual criticisms, AMOLED is clearly the preferred screen technology for phones.

For people saying that burn-in doesn't exist anymore on the latest AMOLED, go to samsung stores and check the S8. The icons at the bottom and the status bar leaves a shadow once the screen is showing a plain wallpaper. It's the best example to use since their display units are always on mostly at max brightness.

I've been using phones with AMOLED, my N8 got that same burn-in. My wife purchased the huawei P10 lately and I envy the things she can do. Being able to use light colored wallpapers/themes and not frequently changing them to minimize burn-in. Not worrying when browsing daymode. AMOLED screens are really good, I can't deny that. But I'll wait 'til this issues are resolved and battery longevity will be improved to counter the faster battery drain when using lighter colored themes/wallpapers.

Not surprising. I'm surprised there are still LCD displays around.

I'm also happy where Samsung took OLED in small displays, and LG with big displays. I hope they will get better yields to offer more and more decent, much better priced priced panels. I also hope more quality manufacturers enter the OLED race. The more there are, the faster we will see OLED's adoption. Despite everyone wanting one in everything, the majority of devices still run LCD due to its lower price attained after years of making it cheaper to make. That said, it is very difficult to go back to LCD having used OLED.

And still people are claiming they've used AMOLED screens and they've had issues this grave. But hey, haters gonna hate even if the poll results proves they're just .. "wrong". I've used a Note 4, a S4 mini and a S6; I like the color accuracy, as well as the deep blacks and I've had nothing to complain about. I've had no burn issues or pixels dying on me during my time using these phones (I'm kinda of a power user). I've also used the LG Flex back then for a few months, it's OLED screen was great, and it had none of the issues mentioned above. I've used LCD screens as well, mainly iPhones (My current daily driver is an iPhone 7 Plus ). I have nothing to say about LCDs in this regard, they're fairly sharp and can get bright enough, I've had no dead-pixels or whatsoever. The only thing I can complain about is the light leaking through the darker parts of the display. I think it's still a matter of preferences; by that I mean that the current technology we're using is far superior than that of a decade ago, and that we should stop throwing false allegations at others.

People still mistake IPS LCD for Quantum Dot. How funny LMAO.
The latter is a type of IPS LCD but for Sony, it uses Live Color LEDs which offers wider color range and exceptional contrast and viewing angles, making it the best type of IPS LCD screen til date.

The only way to stop this fight is for Sony to release their CLEDIS for smartphones, and that technology will remain exclusive for Sony for a good 2 to 3 years, which will make them the best of class for 2 to 3 years.

And before any keyboard warrior attempts to attack me, I don't hate AMOLED, but Samsung's is admittedly one of the worst possible versions of the technology.
Say for instance, WOLED-CF is another type of OLED which offers everything that an AMOLED screen would offer, but it improves on less burn in possibility, even better viewing angles, faster pixel response time, and possibly better efficiency.
Again that type of OLED is what Sony is planning to use, and the thing about manufacturers still using IPS LCD, other than being more expensive than IPS LCD counterpart (of the same size and resolution), is that AMOLED is still at its early days even today.
Burn ins have become less of an issue since then, but it's not completely gone. Brightness has improved significantly, but failed to improve some things like viewing angles and color reproduction (yes, even some AMOLEDs can be poorly calibrated - A5 2016 for example).

Personally, I'm fine with either of the two, just because I have tried both of them personally and I know that I'll be fine with whatever I choose.
The haters and fanboys need to calm down and start being open to everything, because that's the only way that technology could push further to its peak.

"This is not to say that AMOLED is perfect. The comments echoed the usual concerts – burn in, PenTile, color tint at an angle. Each generation of AMOLED made these less and less of an issue to the point where the best-rated screens on the market are AMOLED." But AMOLED haters just got stuck in first generation only, thinking that latest ones will also have the issues of the oldest ones, unable to see the improvements made over the years. But for sure they will change when their favorite brands switch to AMOLEDs next year.

Galaxy s7 and s8 or note 5 is one of the phones having most accurate colors with their amoled screens. In options you just need to choose option amoled photo tint, and it will show colours like any other IPS LCD style screen. Burns? Personally I never seen any burns on any amoled screen, I am using amoled since s4, my four year old s4 has no burns or any issues at all related to it, so before commenting next time, just buy first phone with amoled screen. LCD is dying breed, no other flagship will used it soon, only low end phone will have it, so eventually your phone will be with amoled technology it is not inevitable, still going to scream about it once your phone will get it????

The best example how marketing works. AMOLED technology still have a lot of unacceptable disadvantages. But people saying marketing crap "black is black". Black is good when your screen is off. Relative contrast measurements are fake - nearest pixels are always will hase a few backlights if they are "blacks". And sunlight reflection. So infinite contrast is fake. Color reproducrion, burn-ins, grey color tints. It's a good tech, but definitely not better LCD or IGZO. That's sad. People has no eyes.
