AnonD-3575, 27 May 2011these are great news because with android you get support ... moreAndroid phones will receive guaranteed updates for 18 months or more.
Regarding iphones, what's the use of updates if you're phone can't run the new software properly. Talk about iphone 3G running iOS 4.
And seriously tell me which symbian phones receive updates for 6 years !!!! LOL !
Nokia updating for symbian is like resuscitating a dead thing.

though we hate symbian but nokia is like parent of symbian one cant stop supporting its first child . thhough the symbian is outdated laggy , critiszed and is far behind other os but still we should not forget symbian is the pioneer of os's it showed us the way to other operating system . those were the days when we wer so happy with ever glorious phones like nokia 6600 , nokia 7610 . I hatee symbian but i ll never stop supporting it and i wish it could beat ios and android one day .

          LONG LIVE SYMBIAN :) :)

I think this is a great idea because symbian is improving day by day. With the new update firmwares of anna, belle, and more to come. I think this will be great. I also like the fact that were going to be using 3 different OS's with symbian, meego, and windows. Nokia is far from dead. Android will die out when Nokia and LG present their meego devices.

I like nokia phones. But since this new guy took over, i dont really like the direction he put nokia in and the way he communicate with the public.A lot of confusion and no clear direction. He should be fired once and for all.

This is hilarious! It is plain lie - they are just not able to forfeit today's S60 phone sales.

Why everyone is after Nokia? Why everyone is after Symbian? If you dont like the OS, dont use it. As for Symbian, to me it is still the most user friendly OS to date, I even tried using Andriod, and it sucked big time. The menu and items are so damn confusing, plus every Android phone looks like a clone of each other, HTC ones being the only exception. Andriod sucks when it comes to battery utilization as well and the battery drains very quickly on it. I have nothing against it and I appreciate their attempts to do well in the field of Telephony, I accept SG2 to be the best device out there today, but please these reasons are not good enough to have a go at Symbian just about every time you think of it and use it like a stress buster. Really, those who do that are some sick and twisted insecure Andriod Junkies. By the way, Symbian Anna update looks damn good.

                            these are great news because
with android you get support for a year at most (unless you buy the most expensive model)
with iphone you get about 2 years
                            with symbian you get 5-6

                              OH....MY....GOD!!!
they have absolutely NO idea of what to do, do they?
earlier this year it was announced that they will only support symbian for two years, now its 'till 2016?
I avoided the N8 because of the 2 year statement, and now its support for another 5 years.
Anyway im happy i moved from the Nokia stable, cos they have no idea how deal with the likes of Android etc.
as someone said 'pick one system & stick with it', how difficult can it be?
                              Losers

its great news for symbian lovers, but on my opinion if you want to buy a new nokia device its better to get windows phone or meego OS,

NOKIA is the most trusted brrand in INDIA. Its because of its product quality, service and customer's satisfaction. But others are behind it. So they never take place of Nokia. Their core processers will not satisfied as NOKIA does.

Does Elop know that there are two symbian platforms, namely the S40 and the S60 (maybe ^3). So which is he refering to? Does he know that the S40 is for the lower end budget phones geared more towards Asia and the Middle East, and WP7 can't possibly replace it???

Let's see - Symbian... Maemo... Symbian3... MeeGo... Windows - Nokia doesn't know what to do. Now it comes out with some cheeezy 1980s "luxury" phone with a gold package? Really? Nokia goes from sluggish, mid-2000s Symbian to 1980s glamuh? Look, Nokia. Choose an operating system, just one - a modern one - and stick with it. You have no memorable phones because you come out w/ too many too quickly. Come out w/one or two high-end phones and allow the product to develop. Marketing much?
