HTC is paying the price from their arrogance along the years. They are a case study of how to not manage a company. They do everything wrong. From stupid decisions like removing the headphone jack when everybody wanted it, the pricing is a joke, their hardware is among the most difficult to repair, useless ultrapixel 4mp cameras, and so on.

I don't know about others but HTC is my love since my m8 although m9 was a failure because of SD 810 but still after that HTC 10 and U11 deserve better response people buying 1000 $ phone just to show off or crowd follower.
I hate Samsung yeah I do because I used s3,s5,s6edge,note5,note2,note4 then I gave up Samsung Note 5 was my last from Samsung.
And for apple they are good really good but iOS isn't my type.
And for Google they tried to be apple look at the price of Google pixel device like they made them gold.
For me only
One plus
HTC
Deserve money for flagships
And for mid-range
Huawei
Xiaomi
Motorola
For cheap phone again
Xiaomi
I have seen 100s of people buying iPhone just to show off and Samsung

WTF did Google do with it's previous acquisitions ?
Motorola -
1. made a few small screen Moto X smartphones , then
2. ultimately the Moto G happened in 2013 before selling to Lenovo in 2014.
3. The modular smartphone idea in Project ARA was squashed.
4. And frankly speaking , there isn't much that smartphone manufacturers are getting by adding Google in their arsenal , apart from quick , stock Android updates which themselves have been evolutionary for the past 3 years.
Look at the changes from Lollipop (SD card) to Marshmallow (Permissions & Doze) to Nougat (Multi Window) and finally Oreo. And I really think they need to make their UI a little better looking. Users won't keep buying the fact that they have to stick to a plain Jane UI just for the sake of quick updates. While iOS , I hate to admit , is much refined in this regard.
Google really needs to know what it's doing. Buying HTC won't solve the problem of having a hardware arm unless Google knows how to use it effectively. The HTC engineers/developers must be kept for great camera experiences continuing the trend from Pixel. Don't kill the stereo speakers too. Because apart from HTC , only Sony provides them. Sometimes I wonder if Google is on a spree of failed acquisitions ? First they took over Motorola , then HTC now , maybe later on LG and Sony too.
If you can't utilize them the way they are supposed to be , what's the point of burning all that cash ? Apple will be laughing at the idea and will probably have the first smirk at the idea of a bankrupt Google.
Google , please learn the lesson from Microsoft / Nokia / HMD. Acquisitions don't help much if you don't make a proper use out of them. Unless of course , you're looking for patents which others suggest and want something dirt cheap.

It depends on HTC's patents. Google bought Motorola just for the patents.

Google is most interested in patents HTC hold more than anything else. Same as what happened to Motorola. Patents patents patents. Royalty = constant supply of money for using your patented technologies.
The more "essential" patents you have in technology that other manufacturers have to use, the more royalties and the bigger your upperhand in making deals.
Look at how much Apple paid Nokia for using their patented technology for years and not paying it without a court battle.
Remember - No "relevant patents". Not much value apart from only physical/ liquidated assets.

HTC makes ergonomically nightmarish phones. I have never had a phone that would call in my pocket until I tried the M9. What a POS!!

Just don't crap the quality up that's all. Because HTC and Nokia are/were the only companies who gave a damn about build quality and it was top notch all along, with the exception with some models, and its a really important thing, build quality.
