How much does Google own? In HTC? In terms of percentage?

NiJon, 21 Sep 2017You need to do your research on the Motorola take-over. Goo... moreYour the one that needs to do the Research

Google purchased the entire Motorola mobility Divison Which included patents and everything In 2011

They kept the Company until 2014 under which they released the moto G ,E and X and even opened a new Motorola Production facility in May 2013, in Fort Worth, Texas

If the acquisition was only for patents why would google take the pain to do all this

They had tried all they can to get the Mobile division to profitability but it didn't work out that way and in 2014 the Mobile division was sold to Lenovo

And in the end it started to look like google had only done it for the patents

Also this HTC deal is very much different from the Motorola deal Here google has not purchased any of the assets of HTC it's just a partnership that will benefit both

*And share them with ALL android OEMs who couldn't fight their own legal battles with i.e. Apple, Microsoft etc.*

This is biggest load of nonsense that I have heard my entire life google is not a charity organisation that it will Spend 12.5billion dollars to help it's OEMs legal battles
Google doesn't care about any of its OEMs

Also the Samsung ,apple and Microsoft lawsuits are about hardware patents and nothing related to Android

Google didn't take over Motorola for the brand nor their products. They bought out the entire mobile division for the securement of their mobile parents, and share them with ALL android OEMs who couldn't fight their own legal battles with i.e. Apple, Microsoft etc.

This makes me relieved cause I have the U11 for a month now and was a bit worried about future updates after hearing all the rumors about the possible end of HTC. This is just great that they receive money from Google cause HTC deserves it. The U11 is a superb device and imo even better than S8, iPhone 7 and LG G6 in camera and audio performance. I got the chance to do extensive comparisons and was surprised thaf the U11 was always faster in opening apps, browsing etc. Long live HTC!

hopefully, we can see perfect (size, design, H/W, S/W & price) phones from HTC in near future.

I am android fanboy, but I don't get it.

USD 1.1 bil. to purchase a few employees and some non-essential patents which is NON-exclusive? what a waste of money which means just give free money to the crappy HTC. i would rather hope google uses such money to settle antitrust lawsuits.

if I am Google investor, i must do anything I could to stop the deal. all nexus and pixel devices made by htc are craps and problematic(eg nexus 9). I will not buy any nexus / pixel devices made by htc.

there are so many better android phone manufacturers you can help and invest....

this is the poorest action to Google investors and tech world in this year.

PS, I have been using u11 for a month and the edge sense is just gimmick without actual benefit and the phone is just so-so. htc sales figure already told the truth.

So in short Htc sold its patents to save its sinking ship.

It just didn't want to annoy it's partners especially Samsung. Samsung was trying hard to develop tizen as viable alternative to Android, thats why their take on Android was horrendous. Now that Samsung is committed to Android, Google might compete in hardware space with it

Google, refused to go into hardware business. So they setup companies like Moto and HTC here to build their junk phones.. and they take the fall with it.

                                [deleted post]No it isn’t.
MS DID buy Nokia’s device and service division. This division includes factory, employee, nokia’s service such as MixRadio, and etc. MA bought for $7.6B i believe. BUT MS DID NOT license the patent, i believe the patent licensing is still in different transaction.
That’s why PureView and ClearBlack trademark and other patent that belongs to Nokia DnS division, migrate to MS. But the most patent still on Nokia Technology.

Recently, Nokia DnS sold back to HMD (headquartered in Finland, if some says it’s chinese), and the feature phone + factory goes to FIH, foxconn subsidary.

HMD has taken back the Nokia’s patent from MS.

Nokia never sold their patent. Even Apple paid $2B for liicensing their patent :)

                                  It's about time.

Hi Tech Computer Corporation was the first to manufacture Xperia, Android, Nexus, and Pixel.

Since 1997, OEM/ODM HTC lives on.

Late news aaa.. HTC stock put on suspended already due to Goggle Take Over proposal..

Some People In the Comments were Speculating Yesterday That Google wants cheap Labour hence they want to buy HTC because it cheaper to manufacture in Taiwan and more profit ..

I just couldn't stop My laugh ... LoL

Also i was quite sure that the deal was about the Access to Patents and HTCÂ’s intellectual property.

Also it's quite easy to understand why Google would not want to take over a sinking OEM / ODM

A company like Google hardly Repeates it's mistakes it has already failed once with Motorola
