Like I said, do not be loyal to Apple. Don't be a fan. You can like their products, sure, but like them for their actual merits and NOT the badge. Just because Apple makes a decision, doesn't mean it was the right one, or the best one, or even consumer-friendly. Hell, it might, in hindsight, even be a decision that's not good for the company (remember the buttonless iPod Shuffle? Or how about the Apple Newton?).
FaceID failed on stage when they tried demonstrating it. That's a fact, too.
Its a technology that is not ready for prime time yet. TouchID is, and people love to use it.
And not only that TouchID/fingerprint readers and be used much more quicker, more efficiently, without looking, all in one simple gesture as the device is coming out of your pocket or bag. FaceID cannot claim those feats.
Even if FaceID (or something else) could somehow, I don't know scan your DNA, and thus offer the convenience of TouchID/FpS and increased security... you can't overlook the fact that it covers the top portion of the phone and renders its design ugly.
Apple could have designed the iPhone X with the TouchID built into the Apple logo on the back. Apple could have also implemented the front camera, flood illuminator and dot projector underneath the OLED. But no. They couldn't, probably because the technology is too early, so instead we are left with the ugly iPhone X.
And probably for the next couple of years (3 years?) iPhones will have that ugly lip.
Other manufacturers will do the more sensible thing and just have a thin bezel on the top/bottom without a lip. They will forgo FaceID instead for Underglass Fingerprint reader from Qualcomm like the one on the new flagship Vivo (V8 ?).

Apple had reason to have same design on iPhone 8/8+.
From 2018 all new iPhones will be X-like (except SE series, maybe ).
So from Apple point of view , it didn't made sense to spend time and money on a design, which will last only a year.
Still, Jony Ive is the laziest designer in the world.

My iPhone 6s has still some good life left. I can't imagine paying £1000 for a fancy phone with only other option of getting a recycled iphone 6/6s/7 (plus feels too big with those bazels). I wish apple had a better 8 (4.7 inch, 1080 and the twin camera set up) along with iphone x for those wanting 5.5+ bazel less screen (and skipped 8 plus).
I hope we see the nextgen iphone x 2018 version without the ugly lip on the top of the screen

To be frank, i did change the resolution on my Sony from FHD (1080x1920) to HD (720x1280) and i do notice a difference. Things look a bit blurry on HD, no noticeable performance improvement.
On top of everything, when i switch to HD, the settings background change to white. So i just left it to FHD and changed only the DPI from 480 to 300. Having tablet mode on FHD is awesome!
Haters gonna hate no matter what. That's the only they know. There will always be some stubborn clown opposing technological evolution.
10 years ago trolls wore saying Sony is dead. 10 years later Sony is still here doing well.

That will eventually need to be replaced next year thanks to the cheap materials and worse software support compared to other markets (J36 India uses Speedtraum SoC and 5.1.1, AT&T + Canada model uses Exynos 3475 and will receive Nougat soon, maybe 7.1.1 even)...

Soon they make android in their phones instead of IOS to spare some money and call it an innovation and the phone will cost 2000+
What they will took next year? Extra ram for camera from Sony or google tango from lenovo or Leica camera from Huawei? Apart from IOS they never make sometthing trully own.

Obviously from voting result you can see more than 50 percent says it is rubbish, and it is good result, none of the three worth any love. All three are Expensive Nock off of best of Android world. As usual annoying Apple trick, makes their customers to feel like milking cows, deliberately under supply iPhone X so people will be force to buy sh**** iPhone 8 couple, cause they will not be able to get hands on iPhone x for long upcoming months, so expecting to nail some iPhone 8 sales, lol, apple is nasty when it comes to business as usual.

For the iphonex, I am glad to see that they finally started to use OLED technology.
Now with 4K recoding, you may better get the 256GB model for $1149 + $79 for the 87W Fast Wired Charger (so you can benefits from fast charging) + $25 for the Lighting to USB-C cable +$199 Applecare for iphoneX for around $1,492 plus taxes, that's a great deal....HELL NO!
