HTC Sensation suffers from death grip, iPhone 4 caught snickering

I've been a Sensation owner since they released for TMoUS. I've had ZERO death grip problems. Admittedly, I'm not much of a bluetooth user, but I am an avid user of WiFi, both while at home and when out and about. I have had NO issues with signal strength, what so ever. I went without a cover for the first month of owning the phone, no issues. I now use a rubber gel skin cover, and still no issues.
I believe this to be a faulty product, or the reviewer knows an exact, specific way to grasp the phone to block the signals. Either way, I do not believe to to be a common, widespread problem that will affect day to day usage of the device.

I've had my phone for about a week... I bought a gel skin cover for it while at the store. While sitting a couple rooms away from the wifi, I can watch the signal strength vary greatly simply by adding or removing the cover... it absolutely blocks the signal.

In portrait the Wi Fi signal is fine, if you hold in landscape with the top of the phone pointing away from the router you lose signal straight away.

I've been using the HTC sensation about 2 weeks, and there is no problem at all. I've tried to hold it in various way, even try to block the antenna by my palm, by oter things, hence the wifi signal does not fall. So far it is great phone. Either it is sensation or samsung galaxy s2 or iphone, it's just the matter of preferences. Each smartphone has their own strength.
Before I bought the sensation, I was considering 4 smartphones: htc sensation,samsung galaxy s2,motorola atrix and iphone. In order to make a choice I tried all the smartphones by myself. So I ended up with htc sensation and I'm glad with my decision.
The choice is yours.

So far as to this date it is still the best phone out there

I bought the sensation last week and was initially very happy with it. Screen was brilliant and apps started at lightning speed. But I started to notice that I kept losing my Wi-Fi Calling function (my wife got a Galaxy S 4G and her phone didnt experience the same drops in Wi-Fi). I didnt reallie think too much about it until I read about this so called "death-grip". I tested it on my phone and sure enough, it was effecting my phone. When I hold my phone in landscape, my hands to cover the upper portion of the phone. Wi-Fi would always die when I held the phone this way and for me that was a deal-breaker since I hold the phone in landscape quite a bit when on the internet. I exchanged for the Galaxy S 4G (a fine phone as well) and have not experienced a drop in Wi-Fi since switching. Just my personal experience in the matter.

Nobody hold the phone like that. I have a HTC Desire, if I hold it tight like you hold the Sensation are loosing all the bars from the signal..... and dont have any "death grip".... and is Phone of the Year (2010). The real "death grip" is on the iPhone 4, not this. Get Real !

You have to hold it high up on the top of the back, awkwardly and above the centre of gravity. In practise you'd drop it.

I've done some tests on my own Sensation: it DOES lose signal. However, you have to hold it very deliberately and carefully in order to achieve that. The dead zone is high up in the middle of the plastic bit at the top of the back. Even holding it in landscape it's not natural to cover it- it's NOT a deathgrip because it's simply not a natural hold for either right or left hands in any normal use position.
If you really need a silly name though, you could call it the 'awkward death cradle'.
In short, unlike the poor old iphone 4, this contingency WAS probably designed for, which is why it's NOT in a normal holding position.

I can see the issue they're talking about and if it's a design flaw... it's a MAJOR design flaw.

If you look at the first video, when the guy holds in the 'death grip' the time/seconds are still ticking. This means that the connection is not lost and he is likely holding his hand or finger over the sound speaker. Video is fake.

My arguments against the phone I had (Galaxy S) are far from ludicrous. And if you've heard them before... then perhaps there is more truth to my complaints than just ramblings. They are common complaints that I've heard from many Android users. In fact, my complaints and concerns were not about the phone itself... just Android. I had fully planned on getting the Galaxy, but then hesitated when I saw the N8 was available. I'm on a smaller local carrier that does not carrier every phone in existence. I never felt I was just simply settling for "brand B" as you call it. Since getting the iPhone isn't even an option for me it never even was "brand A" in terms of mobile phones. I have no "brand A" in that area. For me I never even considered it that way, and still don't. I have the N8 and it fulfills my needs and wants in a phone. And the great surprise of the 12mp camera really helped make it a good choice for me. Fit me into a little category if you wish, but I'm probably not the first person you've done that to. I buy whatever products work for me. And if the product isn't working for me - its legit! I won't smoke screen it. And its certainly not ludicrous nor is it isolated to "just" me.

When the WiFi signal strength is weaker I do notice the signal strength indicator decrease when I cover the part of the phone around the camera unit. So far, I haven't noticed any issues with accessing the internet under these conditions and I don't lose my internet connection.

Had the HTC sensation since before it was offically released (it counts to be a vodafone VIP customer) .. But on a serious note, I have not once seen this as an issue, the only time I managed to reproduce this fault, if after I read this and held it flat in my hand for a few seconds... To be honest, a phone that large and valuable, would you handle it that way? If you hold it as any human would then this never happens... And anyway that only affects wifi and bluetooth, no dropped calls as far as I can tell... This is just someone trying to back the iPhone 4 up :/ ...
