In Western Europe only some smartwatches, tablets and some ebook-readers use built in SIM. I even don´t know if my provider support it and how to get it. When I buy a smartphone without any contract, which is the standard here, I take out the SIM of my current phone and insert it in my new phone. It´s that simple and easy. So if this is true they want to force me to use a specific provider. Go home Google...

Looks like the Pixel 2 is dead on arrival given those bezels, Pixel XL 2 not much better either.

        I like the design:
        - better back and side buttons
        - better speaker performance
        - better front/rear cameras
        - ingress protection

        I dislike:
        - No 3.5mm aux jack
        - No SIM tray
        - small battery capacities

I feel like, even if Google fixed the "issues" that I dislike about it... it would only be a "meh" phone in 2018. Had Google fixed those issues AND released this back in March 2017, then yeah, that would be a compelling buy.

Especially since the Pixel v1.0 were so lacklustre and the Galaxy S8's are so super-fragile.
2017 has been the year for the heavily-dicounted LG G6, the expensive yet futuristic S8, and the new LG V30 which has a better balance of price, features, and fragility.

AnonD-489955, 28 Sep 2017Needs some magic added. Late in the year, new phone not ... moreOkay, if the Mate 10 comes out with less than 4000 mAh I'm going for a Mate 9.

This is becoming ridiculous, everyone is relying on the more energy frugal chipsets and do nothing for the optimization - apart from Sony, it seems.

            Needs some magic added.

Late in the year, new phone not too far away, really needed some wow, but if all this is true, it would seem LG V30 ticks more boxes for phone of 2017, but again that will be short lived.

              courage.

AnonD-238991, 28 Sep 2017am in Kenya and i have been planning to get pixel XL 2 for ... moreIf, if there is NO sim card slot this is the next logical step in security
                First
Reset Protection if on the phone prevents the phone from being reset

                Second
Any thief cannot simply replace your simcard with his as simcards have TWO numbers
The cell number and the 19 digit sim card number

CDMA phones (Verizon, Sprint) do not use sim card, you have to contact the network and in effect register the phone (19 digit sim card number)with the network

As you have registered that sim card number a thief cannot register that number i.e. that phone additionally you can enter anti theft commands as you will still have network connection.
While the phone is on you locate /lock/ ring commands

Pixel XL 2 looks good. Small bezels and front speakers. I think removing of sim card is the future, but the world is not ready for it, not yet. But why they have removed the headphone jack, well we will see next week...

No headphone jack is a big problem for most of people. Potential customers should resist desire to give their hard earned money to manufacturers who are not a customer friendly and instead of providing something what was in place for many years and still really needed by majority of people trying to squeeze every penny out of them.

So what exactly are we "gaining" from no headphone jack this time?

The phone still has chunky bezels and water resistance isn't an excuse. These companies will continue to nickel and dime you until you stop supporting these anti-consumer moves and stop buying their phones. No headphone jack is a massive inconvenience for the average consumer and reviewers need to harder on these companies for removing it

No headphone jack no buy. But Google talks big but love following Apple footsteps. Only Samsung listen to consumer more. Thank you Samsung.
