Worried what happens when we get to 100? Don’t be: Our new DxOMark Mobile test protocols and scoring system have plenty of headroom for new devices as they are introduced. There is nothing magical about the score of 100, and no reason that other cameras can’t go past it. We’re sure the time will come when they do!

Samsung S8 had even better values for most of the category but overall rating is 88. Being a new flagship, they have to give higher value for Pixel 2 even though rating for many categories are very less. Really sad on fake reviews for money. :(

Mobile cameras cannot be compared with the sea of information which DSLR camera sensor captures. You can play with pictures taken in RAW and can convert a dull photo into an amazing lively picture.

Hahaha! Exactly as I predicted in another post. In that post I said, "How predictable (DXOmark)!" I'm sure after iphone 8, it will be note 8's turn to top, then the pixel 2,then Iphone X, galaxy s9, then repeat cycle. Sorry Huawei, LG, Sony, Oneplus, etc. You need to increase your ads and sponsorship budget if you want to top DXOmark's charts.
Phone manufacturers are really getting unscrupulous - they are heavily promoting their phone's photo quality as comparable to or even outperforming dSLR's as justification for the ever increasing flagship phone prices. I pity the naive/ignorant buyers who shell out $800, $900, and even $1000+ for a phone because they have to buy the best cameraphone as rated by DXOmark, and they were made to believe by phone manufacturers that they are actually saving on costs because they no longer need a dSLR or some other dedicated camera.
If only these users stop believing DXOmark's rating; if only these users stop viewing photos in Facebook and Instagram on their smallish 5 - 6" mobile devices then they would have realized how fake the blur looks and how horrible the low light photos are when viewed on their 4K desktop monitors.
Seriously, there's not much difference in photo quality from camera phones being compared by DXOmark in the 80-100 range. Stop upgrading your phone because a new camera phone has topped DXOmark's ratings. Get a dSLR for 1/4 the price of the phone and 100% better blur and photo quality in low light. Keeping your old 85% DXOmark rated phone or so as there is not much difference between it and the 98% rated phones. You're better of buying dSLR lenses for the savings you make.

Nope. Most pocket camera user, yes. Most dslr user ? Nope. Leave alone mirrorless.
Like 80% of people who own dslr will take photos in raw+jpeg format, that's for sure.
Don't belueve me ? Go to youtube, watch camera review on any channel, or go to dpreview.com or go to any camera forum you want. Those dudes are in no way taking only jpeg.
What about the everyday girl who buys high end camera just to capture cool pic ?
They use or buy lightroom preset, the same as vsco (Polar in android is closer), but more professional.
Some presets even have auto exposure to dial back highlight and push shadows.
That's it. No need to learn photoshop. One touch beauty done.
Better sensor ? Better as in more developed technology ?
Nope.
My old nikon d3300 don't have better sensor than, even, say samsung s7.
The AF is light years behind than s7. If you record video, s7 wins straught out of box and we can burn the d3300 together.
Not better, but bigger pixel size and sensor size. That's it.
Lg V30 even has focus peaking, something that only super high end dslr has ($2000 above )
It also has crisps stereo audio in video recording, something that no dslr at any price from the first dslr ever made has.
Even 10 bit video recording ? You either need super pricy external recorder or buy panasonic GH5 to do that.
Smartphone wins on technology, dslr users wins on versatility.
It doesn't matter if someone uses sony a7s which has almost 45 times bigger pixel size than htc ultrapixel or whatever, or just uses smartphone.
The difference is on the technical side.
Hand tony north up an iphone 4s and i'll hand someone canon 5D mark IV, bet $100.000 tony wins.
Whatever you have, your skill will determine you, not your gear.

All pictures I´ve seen so far from Pixel2 are good but not really great, especially in low light. There´s also a "official" video about the making of this camera with some sample pictures.
The sensor is smaller, the pixels too. I guess even HDR+ can´t make that difference anymore. Maybe the average user is that dumb but more and more I also get the feeling to boycott those companies. I´m not a cash cow and they don´t focus on real progress: Bigger sensors and great lenses that we had some years before. Instead with every new model they use smaller, cheaper sensors for their profits. If you buy a phone for 300 Euro + a great small P&S for 300 Euro you will have for sure the better camera package. And it´s even cheaper.

Google Pixel (no Dual Pixel): Photo Af 98 Video Af 94
Google Pixel 2 (with Dual Pixel): Photo Af 98 Video Af 95
Samsung Galaxy Note8: Photo Af 94 Video Af 65
Conclusion: Dual Pixel must be a joke. Am I missing something here? Or are DxO results are the joke? Please educate me further on how Dual Pixel tech is not helpful as I thought it would be

You have the ability to postprocess the RAW files to your liking. And that's what professionals and wanna-be-professionals do. Some advanced amateurs do it also.
But most users of (D)SLRs and mirrorless cameras shoot the same as you shoot with your phone. In automatic or semiautomatic modes, and JPEGs, usually with Standard picture setting. Sharpened, saturated, enhanced contrast. Processed similarly as your phone do. The only difference is, that, on a DSLR, the processing looks much better than on your phone. Why? Because it have far superior sensor and optics. And THAT is why photos from a DSLR are much better than from your phone, not because the phones oversharpen or oversaturate.
Simply, that's the best you can get from a phone camera, with automatic processing. Which is far behind from what you can get from a DSLR with the same automatic processing.

Nothing is impossible, but it's a must to have an idea that different camera devices are scored with different criterias. For instance, a DSLR with a score of 100 points is superior to a smartphone with 100 points.
But numbers aren't everything. LG G6 kills any other high end flagships despite the use of a cheap mid range sensor.
