Step aside, Note8 and iPhone 8 Plus - Pixel 2 scores 98 on DxOMark

04 October 2017
The record overall result comes after 99 in still images and 96 in videos, if you were wondering.

Sort by:

Note8 takes better stills but that's an amazing video score. Good job google!

Dxo went berserk and plain out ridiculous since the protocol changes...
Maths dont add up, reviews are uneven and unstandardized, scoring became ridiculous....

I think the staff there is trying to tell us all sth by this utterly illogical review and scoring approach...

Smartphone trend started by apple :
Ur phone is a Internet device + Music Player + Phone.

Later Nokia added camera to the equation.

Then Apple removed the Music aspect from Smartphone by removing 3.5mm headphone Jack. Reasons:
      1. Camera aspect of smartphone is more emphasized in social media (instagram, twitter, facebook ...)
      2. Buy our Ipods.

HTC followed it and Google followed it too...

They are fooling us with these quality terms. These ratings can be easily beaten by a $250 Sony Digicam(slimmest one's are produced by Sony).

Since music player aspect is removed from smartphone, we have to buy dedicated music players. Might as well we buy Digicams and used our laptops and buy a Nokia 3310.

Then these assholes will learn their lessons.

3yrs security and support !!! We are already getting 10 yrs support from Windows 10. Digicams doesn't need security and updates, as well as Music Player and Nokia basic phone. Well anyways Nokia basic phones has audio jacks.

Let's boycott this all in one smartphones and teach them a lesson.

Anonymous, 05 Oct 2017Will Sony obtain the score of 99 next year?Maybe if they fixed their software, and lowered the megapixel count on their sensor to 12-13 megapixels while keeping the same size sensor. And then throw in OIS while they're at it.

Just like someone state below the formula is

($$$ + DxOMark) : 700000 = Score (can be any higher based on $$$ you feed the DxO :D)

This is getting ridiculous, there needs to be a certain benchmark above what the current crop of phones can do apart from software trickery.
The new score system, feels like nothing more than pandering to the mainstream juggernauts with little respect for actual camera performance and experience.
What will happen when the next year's phones come out? Will DxO Mark give them 100 + scores? Smh

Score another one for gimmick-less technology. Once again, a single-sensor camera is king.

It's too bad the Pixel 2 XL went full-retard with the 18:9 display.

I think that the V30 use the new 351 1µm as main sensor, we'll see the performance of the Pixel 2 Xl camera. The U11 as I said before use the Sony 362 1.40µm main sensor, curious about what Pixel 2 use as main sensor and the influence of the post procesing software in the result.

It would be almost a paradox that the cheapest model has better camera than the most expensive one right? I can imagine the face of the buyers after such a fiasco. If so.

Anonymous, 05 Oct 2017Omg! Is that why Apple and Samsung scored that high?Exactly. I like the Note 8, but there's NO WAY a mobile phone's camera can achieve a 100 score in photos. These results don't make any sense. Aaaaaand there's the fact that the Pixel 2's scores for individual categories do NOT exceed 98. How in the world do they compile their ''average'' scores?!? They check the check the company issued them and divide it by 700000?

The Dxo charts were topped in such quick succession first by apple, next samsung and now pixel 2/xl 2. Something doesn't feel right. I'll wait till reviewers get their hands on the pixel 2/xl 2

Camera samples look worse than Nexus 5x or Pixel 1 with HDR+. Even the unreliable Dxomark writes that the Pixel 2 is noisier than the first Pixel. In good lighting conditions this is not surprising as the new sensor is approximately 20% smaller. But even the color reproduction seems worse in my opinion.
