It's still very highly fishy when DxOmark publishes their "rigorous test", just minutes after the phone is unveiled.
Still the Pixel now has a Dual-Pixel sensor, OIS and f/1.8 aperture and judging by the performance of the original Pixel, this might well be the new king of photography.
An enticing shootout with the Note8, V30, iPhone X, Mate 10, XZ Premium & the U11 awaits.
BTW, the 99 points for photo isn't unrivalled. The Note8 got 100 points. It's in video where the Pixel 2 sets the record.

But my s7 edge is still running fine and i don't really see a need to upgrade this year.. Another problem is that Google pixels and iphones are priced at ridiculous rates after taxes and duties

I think smartphone cameras have reached to a point where a couple of points in difference in objective evaluation doesn't matter at all. This can very well be considered well within margin of error in statistics. So yeah go ahead with Pixel or Samsung or iphone, all of them would do the job for you pretty well. I personally prefer Pixel as their software processing is unparalleled. This is evidenced by how much they can achieve using a single lens. That's pretty awesome, and it also means I can get those benefits updated with new features over time (if google decides to push them).
